Hey Guys!
Today, I’m going to officially introduce you to our third child! We welcomed Koert Jason into the world on February 15th at 10:22 am. Everything has been a busy since then! If you prefer food and recipes skip this post!
Koert was 8 lb 13 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. By far my biggest baby! The girls were both 7 lb 8 oz. I always felt sorry for those ladies having 9-10 lb babies and I was almost one of them! Life is funny like that isn’t it?
Labor was pretty easy, but that’s because I always embrace an epidural. During my first pregnancy my mother looked at me and told me I was a wuss and I needed one and since Mom knows best I went with it. I’ve been very thankful I’ve had one for other reasons but we’ll get into that later!
I had been having contractions off and on for a few days but we’d get excited and then they’d stop. It was so frustrating. With my other two pregnancies this did not happen. I started having contractions and they promptly got closer and then I went in the hospital and had my baby. Needless to say my husband was getting really good at flying out of bed and throwing on his clothes. I think he was ready to hit me over the head at the end! I was about ready to cry out of frustration as I kept getting more overdue….
On the morning of the 15th I had been having contractions off and on through the night but was able to still sleep. They were about 20 minutes apart so I wasn’t to concerned. My mom had stayed overnight, bless her heart, so I knew someone was here to take care of the girls if need be. I told my hubs to get ready for work like normal because I was sure we were going to jinx it and these contractions would stop. They didn’t. In fact suddenly they were CLOSE together and I was dying. My hubs quickly changed and we were off to the hospital! We arrived a little after 7 am.

I had been dilated to 3 cm at my last OB appointment and was hoping those contractions off and on had helped me along a bit more. Soon I was dilated to 6 cm and I had them turn on that epidural before they broke my water. I didn’t when I had Miss K and it was horrific so I made sure to request that! My nurse was amazing. In a small town you pretty much know everyone and she’s married to my high school classmate and we had birthing classes together when we had our first children. Nice, huh? Can’t be modest in a small town that’s for sure!
I have had the same Midwife for all my deliveries and my biggest fear is she will be out of town when I deliver. Luckily I avoided that once again! She’s amazing. So calm and reassuring and of course “gets” me. Something you want in the delivery room! I’ve also been lucky enough to have the same anesthesiologist each time who has been doing this in my town for years and years and I trust him totally. Honestly, I had thought about saying no to an epidural if someone else walked in!
After they broke my water things went fast and I delivered a healthy baby boy at 10:22 am. After a whopping two pushes! That’s my style! We didn’t know we were having a boy so when they held him up for Jason to tell me the gender he literally did a double take. He had made up his mind that it was a girl after we had two girls already. We are still laughing about that!

Delivery is rather easy for me but after that everything goes downhill. I had complications with Miss K while delivering my placenta and ended up hemorrhaging with her. RyRy was non-eventful but just my luck I was going to have another scary experience. My placenta wouldn’t detach so they had to manually delivery it. Let’s just say three doctors arms up to their elbows in you is not pleasant and I was thankful for the epidural. They eventually knocked me out cold. In a small hospital it’s not like there are surgeons standing by and ORs ready to go so they were paging our surgeon who wasn’t in the hospital and trying to get an OR ready for me if need be. I’m blessed that was never had to go to the OR and that the surgeon got there and pretty much saved me. I thought maybe my hubs was exaggerating on the events, but when a Doctor showed up later that day and asked if I was going to have more children and then breathed a sigh of relief when I said no I realized that maybe it was quite a big deal! That iced the deal. My family is complete!
I mean… I like to be here on earth and don’t really want to leave for a while!
Koert is now three weeks old and we are trying to find our new “normal”. I was blessed to have the hubs at home for a week, but it’s never long enough is it? I wish he was still beside me every day helping me out, but we are all still alive and only have a few meltdowns per day!
Koert is an amazing baby. He’s happy unless he’s tired, hungry or wet. Sure, he has the usual witching hours in the evening where he’s fussy, but it’s nothing like what I’ve heard of from other people! I kept thinking maybe I’d end up with a baby that had colic and we were pushing our luck with the third one but so far so good. He usually sleeps between 3-4 hours and is up to feed in the night, but he’s three weeks old. Can I expect much less? Of course, I want to expect more and wish it will happen and I’ll get those 5-6 hour stretches, but I will eventually, right? Last time, last time I keep saying to myself! The whole newborn thing would be so much easier if they came out sleeping eight hours per night that’s for sure!
The girls are in love. We were a bit worried about RyRy and the adjustment, but after a rough few days she’s settling into it just fine. She is the ultimate pacifier guarder and will find it and bring it whenever her brother fusses. To bad he doesn’t like it! Miss K is my mother hen and is always concerned about Koert and his every need. Talking to him like she’s his mother and asking to hold him all the time. She’s pretty proud of the little guy to say the least!
My hubs is over the moon at the addition of another male in the house. A few hours after he was born I had to ask him just how bad he was hoping for a boy because he had been playing it off during the pregnancy pretty well. He grinned and said REALLY BAD so I’m glad he got his wish!
