How to Make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Begin by greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray and then set it to the side.
Then cut the grands biscuits into quarters with clean kitchen shears or a sharp knife. Line the bottom of the pan with the cut biscuits.
Brown the ground breakfast sausage in a large skillet, then drain the grease. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the biscuit pieces.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Then pour the mixture over the sausage and biscuits. Cover with plastic wrap or foil and place in the fridge until morning.
Go ahead and mix up the gravy too! Melt 5 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and then whisk in the flour until it makes a paste. Add salt and pepper and whisk to combine.
Whisk in the milk over a medium high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce to a simmer for 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens. Once done, set it aside to cool and then place it in the fridge until morning.
When you’re ready to bake in the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the casserole from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature while the oven preheats.
Warm the gravy in the microwave or on the stovetop until it is pourable. Then pour it over the egg casserole and cover it with aluminum foil.
Place covered biscuits and gravy casserole in the oven and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and then bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until the casserole is set in the middle and the edges are golden brown.
Serve immediately!

I would like to make this but the ingredient list doesn’t mention anything about gravy but one of the steps mentions mixing the gravy. What type of gravy do I use and how much?
Rachael says
Steps 8, 9, 10 are the gravy steps.

Hi! I made this recipe at a beach house on our family vacation, it baked for about 50 minutes and the eggs were still not cooked :/ . Do you think this is an altitude problem? Should I turn up the heat or bake it longer?
Julie Evink says
I’d just bake it longer!
Jessica Presley says
Is there a maximum amount of time it can be left in the fridge before baking?
Julie Evink says
I wouldn’t leave it for more than 24 hours.

This is our new favorite breakfast casserole. I did want to add though, that we had a casseroles dish break on us when we went to put it in the pre-heated oven. I am guessing the dish was too cold from being in the fridge, it basically burst, and being cold and then being out in a hot oven, too much of a temp. change too fast? So now we just put the dish in the oven while it preheats and watch it towards the end of cooking time . This is delish! Just wanted to share what happened with our dish. It was quite the mess to try to clean up in the oven!

No amounts of ingredients? Slow internet means I don’t want to watch the video to find out. I want to print a recipe card to take with me to the store to make sure I buy enough of each item. Darn I won’t be making this.

Updated! Sorry I’m having technical difficulties sorry about that and thanks for letting me know!

If the cooking time is off as most comments indicate, how long should it be cooked? I do want to make this and have it ready on time! Thanks….
Julie Evink says
I’ve made this multiple times and haven’t had a problem. I baked mine in a glass baking dish. If you have problems I would add 10 – 15 minutes of cooking time.

Could this be made with homemade biscuits instead of canned?

I love biscuits and gravy! But I live in an area of Mexico where refrigerator biscuits and even US style breakfast sausage are not available. I make my own sausage from a vast seasoning collection and pork ground to order in my favorite carnecería (butcher shop) I’m so in love with this recipe that I’m going to give scratch biscuits a try. Given that I’m learning high-altitude baking, It will be interesting. I will certainly let you know how it goes.

Good luck!!

This is amazing. This is one of only a few recipes that I make as is (except I do add white pepper to the gravy-it adds some depth). MY family and coworkers LOVE this casserole!
