How to Make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Begin by greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray and then set it to the side.
Then cut the grands biscuits into quarters with clean kitchen shears or a sharp knife. Line the bottom of the pan with the cut biscuits.
Brown the ground breakfast sausage in a large skillet, then drain the grease. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the biscuit pieces.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Then pour the mixture over the sausage and biscuits. Cover with plastic wrap or foil and place in the fridge until morning.
Go ahead and mix up the gravy too! Melt 5 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and then whisk in the flour until it makes a paste. Add salt and pepper and whisk to combine.
Whisk in the milk over a medium high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce to a simmer for 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens. Once done, set it aside to cool and then place it in the fridge until morning.
When you’re ready to bake in the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the casserole from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature while the oven preheats.
Warm the gravy in the microwave or on the stovetop until it is pourable. Then pour it over the egg casserole and cover it with aluminum foil.
Place covered biscuits and gravy casserole in the oven and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and then bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until the casserole is set in the middle and the edges are golden brown.
Serve immediately!

Can I bake two of these casseroles at one time? Would I need to increase the baking time or do anything else differently?
Julie Evink says
No you can bake them at the same time.
Becky says
Can this be made in the crock pot?
Julie Evink says
Hey Becky! I’m sorry I’ve never tested it in the crock pot.
Elaine Laskowski says
Does it have to sit overnight or can you bake it immediately.
Julie Evink says
I haven’t tried it, I think it would work best overnight, but it would still be good if you did it in the morning!
Dana says
Have you ever doubled the recipe, I need a large amount, like a pasta aluminum pan amount! 19×11
Michelle Sperr says
Hi Dana! I have often played around with this recipe for larger/smaller crowds! You can certainly double the recipe and I think the 19×11 size would be great! Hope it turns out amazing!
Di Lemberger says
This is yummy but I do put the quartered biscuits on top of casserole as they come out much flakier and browned. Thanks for sharing!
Michelle Sperr says
What a great suggestions Di, thank you for sharing!
Nancy says
If you place the biscuit pieces on top, do you add them in the morning or the night before? Will they brown more quickly shortening the bake time? I definitely like the idea of biscuits on top!
Julie Evink says
I would just cover with foil if you notice they start to brown to much. I think they might sink if you put them on the night before!
Kevin Cronin says
Good taste, I would recommend cooking the biscuits prior. they were a little doughy…
Julie says
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kelli says

Julie says

Bobbie says
I’m making this tonight.
Does it make enough gravy? Or how would I increase the amount of gravy?
Julie says
You could double the gravy portion of the recipe but I haven’t tested this so I don’t know if that will cause it to bubble over when baking!
Kathy Rusell says
Can you add a layer of shredded has browns and do you cook the sausage before you add it.
Julie says
Yes, cook the sausage before you add it to the casserole. You could add hash browns, I would recommend refrigerated/thawed hash browns. It may add to the cooking time.
Kathy Rusell says
Do you cook the sausage before you put it together.
Julie says
Yes
Summer Amenta says
This is one of my favorite recipes! I make it every year for Christmas. My son is now allergic to ingredients in many of the store bought biscuit dough. Do you think it would work with homemade biscuit dough?
Julie says
I haven’t tried this one with anything but homemade biscuit dough but it would definitely be worth a try! If you give it a shot, let me know how it goes!
Linda says

Shana says
I was wondering if you happened to try the recipe with the Pillsbury frozen biscuits? If so, how did it turn out?
Mary says
can I put the gravy on the night before too? I love your recipes and advise!!!!
Julie says
I haven’t tried that, I don’t know if it’ll cause the biscuits to get soggy or not. If you try it let me know how it goes!
Sara says
Question… can I make this up and freeze it before cooking? I want to be able to make this a freezer meal to thaw in the fridge overnight and cook in the morning.
FYI, I have been using precooked turkey sausage and premade gravy, so this is almost 100% a dump and stir. I also use reduced fat cheese and fairlife milk to make this as healthy as I can.. I have been searching for this recipe for decades. Thanks so much for sharing, it is now our ONLY go to breakfast casserole. We have made it almost every week for months. There are only 2 of us, so this casserole feeds us for the whole week, if I can restrain my portions.
And my tip, I always add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to my eggs, but NOT this one. Made the casserole wet and take forever to cook.
Julie says
I’m glad you love it! I haven’t tried freezing this one, I’m not sure how the biscuits will hold up after being frozen but you could certainly give it a shot. Let me know how it goes if you do!
Danelle says
My kids love this! I cut into individual servings and freeze them in baggies for quick grab and go breakfasts during the school year.
Julie says
Great idea! Thanks for sharing Danelle, I’m glad you and your family enjoyed it!
Laura Mae says
How do. You re-heat it?Laura Mae
Michelle Sperr says
Hi Laura! I re-heat the leftovers in the microwave for a quick and easy breakfast or lunch!
