Leftover Ham Recipes
Easter week is here! That means you’ll be dying Easter Eggs and eating lots of ham, which also means leftover eggs perfect for Deviled Eggs or Deviled Egg Salad Sandwiches and leftover ham perfect for this pasta dish next week! I couldn’t believe it when I looked at the calendar and it was this week. Apparently, I thought there was another week in there.
I was greatly mistaken and left scrambling for things like a white cardigan for RyRy. Ahem. One would think they would be all over the place this time of year because Easter dresses for children are sleeveless, we live in Minnesota, therefore we need cardigans. Logical huh?
Well, no it’s not or at least not in the eyes of Target, Carters etc….
How do you store leftover ham?
Can you put warm ham in the fridge? No, it’s best to allow it to cool to room temperature. Then wrap it well in either tinfoil or plastic wrap and tuck it into the refrigerator.
How long is leftover ham good in the fridge?
If you have leftover Honey Baked Ham just wrap it well. It will store nicely in the refrigerator for several days – 7-10 days.
Recipes for Leftover Ham
Back to my cardigan fiasco. So I’m trolling the internet looking for one that would be here by the end of the week and I was up in arms about it. I explain my frustration to my hubs and he gets to work looking for one. He’s a rock star, which I already knew, because he found me one and I’m praying it will be here on Friday like it says!
I also had to order new shoes for Miss K because the shoes I put on her last week didn’t fit this week. Kids. I swear they grow overnight some of the time! So as long as all of this arrives on time I should have two cute matching girls to show off at Easter.
Yes, I love to make them match and Miss K thoroughly enjoys it so I’m going to do it as long as I can because pretty soon that won’t be cool at all and neither will I. Sigh. I’m not looking forward to that!

I just made this for dinner with a few changes and thought it was a success! I didn’t want to use up my ham that we use for breakfast so I cubed up some boneless skinless chicken breasts and cooked it with the olive oil and onion and added the garlic when it was closer to being done. I whisked the flour into my broth because I was worried about it clumping. I used regular generic grocery store brand penne. Once it came back up to a boil I reduced the heat to a simmer with the lid on the whole time. At 10 min I added 1 cup of frozen peas and cooked for 3-5 more minutes. I thought the seasoning was good. I seasoned the chicken with pepper and Alpine Touch (a Made in MT seasoning) while cooking the chicken and checked for salt level as I finished the dish. My 1 year old ate 2 helpings and my 7 year old ate 2 helpings. I thought it was tasty.

Sounds like great changes Dawn! I’ll have to try it like that. If the kids ate it, then you know it’s a winner 😉

I made this tonight and my hubby & I loved it, my picky daughter not so much… but she doesn’t like too many veggies, & peas isn’t one of them. Lol We skipped the pepper flakes and added a little more milk, but only because I didn’t feel like dirtying a lid to cover it. 😉 My daughter needed more salt, but we thought it good the way it was & will make it again! I LOVED that it was all in one pot too!
Julie Evink says
Ahhh yes, kids are picky aren’t they? At least peas are easy to pick out!! Glad you enjoyed it!

I am looking forward to making this. TY for the recipe. I have always had trouble getting pasta done in this kind of recipe. I know it kills the “one pot” thing, but I will cook pasta 1/2 way before adding to pot.

We made this tonight and with some modifications it was really good, my 2 year old asked for seconds. As others said, it needed more broth to cook the noodles, I used 32 oz of broth. I also added broccoli to throw in an extra veggie. It wasn’t flavorful enough like this, so I added salt to taste and extra Parmesan. Turned out really good, but wasn’t as healthy with the extra cheese 🙂
Julie Evink says
Awesome adaptions Marka! Glad you enjoyed it!

Just made this tonight and it turned out great!
I made a few adjustments:
I used a large saucepan for everything. I had no onion so I just sauted the ham to get it a bit more saltier. I also used 32 oz of broth, whole milk and 16oz of rotini. I like my peas to ‘snap’ so I used frozen sweet peas and cooked until my noodles we al dente( about 17 minutes total, 5 were after I added the peas). It was creamy but not loaded like an alfredo. So so good and our kids just ate it up!
Thanks for this recipe. It will definitely be on our rotation more.

Just made this using left over Christmas ham. Used vegetable broth since I did not have chicken, also used veggie penne. This turned out amazing and my husband and I agree this is a keeper. Great flavor! Thanks for sharing.

I saw a couple of negative reviews and just wanted to let you know that I made this a couple of days ago, and my family loved it! I used elbow macaroni because I had it on hand, and I put a lid on the pan while it was cooking to preserve some of the liquid. The macaroni was fully cooked in 10 minutes, so I didn’t need the extra 5 minutes after adding the peas. I did pour in some extra broth/milk because I prefer more sauce, but that is just personal preference. My picky kids even liked it! Thanks for the great one pan recipe!
Nicole says
Are you cooking on medium the whole time? Pot covered? Please provide a little more detail. Thanks!
Julie Evink says
Yes and cover the pan if you’d like! It provides a little more sauce!
Amesha says
This LOOKED delicious, however, as stated above, it needed way more liquid and longer to cook. Not to mention it was bland, needing more salt than the ham provided. Would’ve tasted better with a jar of store bought Alfredo and less peas, more cheese. Couldn’t even finish it. Super disappointed!!
Julie Evink says
HI Amesha! Thanks for letting me know you had problems with this recipe. I made this again for supper tonight following the directions as printed and had great results. I’m not sure what happened when you made it. If you do use jarred Alfredo you will not have enough liquid to cook the noodles in. Make sure to use extra chicken broth if you opt for this.
Ptj says
I made this exactly as directed and the pasta needs way more liquid, and much more time, to cook. I had to add 3c extra broth to get it to cook through. We didn’t care for it at all.
Victoire says
I wish I had read your comment before making this for dinner tonight! Definitely not enough cooking liquid and so the pasta took much longer.
Julie Evink says
Hi Victoire! Thanks for letting me know you had problems with this recipe. I made this again for supper tonight following the directions as printed and had great results. I will say it’s doesn’t have a ton of sauce but we enjoyed this. If you are looking for more sauce please add more milk and broth. I’m not sure what happened when you made it.
Julie Evink says
The purpose of the “One Pot” recipe would be to only dirty one pot and cook the noodles with everything else. This is why there is extra liquid in this recipe.
Cathy Trochelman says
Yep, my family would be ALL over this!
