Parmesan Crusted Tilapia is a quick and easy dinner recipe that is ready in under 30 minutes! It will be your go-to tilapia recipe that everyone in your family will devour. With a simple Panko and Parmesan cheese coating that gives it a nice crunchy coating. If you are looking to mix in more fish recipes in your dinners this tilapia recipe is a simple, delicious recipe!
Is fish part of your dinner rotation? I like tucking in a fish dish here and there, like cauliflower rice fish taco bowls, just to keep things interesting. This parmesan crusted tilapia is one of our family favorites!
I know fish isn’t always the most requested dinner, but when you bread tilapia and pop it in the oven, it comes out hot and crispy. It’s almost like fried fish but so much healthier, and I’ve never seen it turned down!
My family loves mexican fish stick tacos and cheesy fish stick hashbrown casserole, so I knew the first time I made this parmesan crusted tilapia recipe they would love it. These fillets are crispy like their favorite fish sticks, but made from scratch with fresh tilapia! This tasty recipe is super easy and so tasty.
Why You’ll Love Parmesan Crusted Tilapia
- This crispy baked fish is similar in taste and texture to fried fish, but without all the oil and mess from frying!
- It’s super simple recipe to make – you only need four ingredients and 30 minutes before this tasty main dish is ready to eat.
- Tilapia is really easy to cook and doesn’t require much skill in the kitchen. So this recipe is great for beginners!
Ingredients for Parmesan Crusted Tilapia
- Tilapia fillets – If you purchase frozen tilapia fillets, allow them to thaw before using them in this crusted tilapia recipe.
- Panko bread crumbs – This is all you need to make the most crispy and crunchy outer crust for parmesan crusted tilapia.
- Parmesan cheese – You’ll want to use shredded parmesan cheese instead of grated. For best results, shred your own cheese.
- Melted butter – Salted and unsalted butter will both work for this easy recipe.
Helpful Tools
How to Make Parmesan Tilapia
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and then spray a baking sheet with non stick cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl mix together the panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, and melted butter.
- Place the tilapia on the previously prepared baking sheet and cover the top of each fillet with the panko and cheese mixture.
- Bake parmesan crusted tilapia for 15 to 20 minutes until the panko crust is golden brown.
- Serve immediately with your favorite side dish!
What to Serve with Parmesan Crusted Tilapia
Bacon wrapped green beans and glazed carrots are two simple sides that I love to serve with fish. Smashed potatoes are also delicious if you want something quick and easy.
Garlic cheddar biscuits and easy oven roasted vegetables would pair well with this crispy fish too.
You could of course go with classics like corn on the cob, mac and cheese, or mashed potatoes as well. And then wrap up your meal with a delicious no bake blueberry cheesecake or a simple strawberry lemon cake.
How to Store Leftover Parmesan Tilapia
FRIDGE: Leftover cooked tilapia will keep in the refrigerator for up three to four days. Place it into an airtight container or wrap tightly in plastic wrap.
FREEZE: Wrap each fillet tightly in plastic wrap or foil and place it into a freezer safe bag. Or, place leftover fish into an airtight container. Freeze cooked tilapia for up to three months.
How to Reheat Leftover Tilapia
To reheat, place into the oven until warmed through. Keep in mind that the panko breading may not crisp up as much when reheated. But it will still taste quite delicious!
What does tilapia taste like?
Tilapia has a very mild taste. So mild, in fact, that some people don’t think it has any flavor at all! However, the mild flavor is what I like best about this fish.
If you have picky eaters, or you haven’t cooked much fish, tilapia is a great way to introduce seafood to your family. I love it breaded, but the mild flavor also means you can dress it up with other flavors. It’s really versatile!
How do you know when tilapia is done?
The easiest way to know when tilapia is done is by checking with a fork. Fish that is fully cooked will be opaque, but since this tilapia is breaded you might not be able to see that easily.
Grab a fork and poke it into the thickest part of the fish. When you turn the fork the fish should easily flake. Fish cooks pretty fast so be sure to check it at the recommended time so you don’t over bake it.
Pro Tips!
- Give this yummy crusted tilapia extra flavor by seasoning the panko bread crumbs. Garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika are my favorites!
- Line your baking sheet with foil or parchment paper to make clean-up even easier.
- Sprinkle each fillet with a bit of fresh lemon juice for a tasty zing with each bite of crispy fish.
I know you’re going to love this parmesan crusted tilapia recipe! It’s a quick 30-minute dinner that the whole family will enjoy.
