How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
- Preheat the broiler and while it preheats, whisk together the cornstarch and broth in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium high. Add the onion and pepper, then sauté for about 3 minutes until tender. Add the beef to the skillet and continue to cook, breaking it up and browning, for another 3 minutes or until the beef is no longer pink. Drain off the excess fat.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire and beef seasoning.
- Give the broth and cornstarch a quick stir to make sure it’s combined, as it may have settled. Add the slurry to the meat mixture and then simmer for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens slightly.
- Scoop some mixture onto one half of each of the buns, top with one slice of cheese and place on baking sheet.
- Put the sheet pan under the broiler until melted and keep a close eye on it so that nothing burns. Remove from the oven and top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
How to Store Leftover Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

FRIDGE: Store leftovers of this philly cheesesteak sloppy joes recipe in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
FREEZER: This delicious sloppy joe mixture will freeze well too! Store in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw before reheating.
Can I use a different type of meat for sloppy joes?
Yep! Both ground turkey and ground chicken are great substitutes for ground beef in sloppy joes. They’re also more lean options and won’t be as greasy.
What to Serve with Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes
Serve these hearty sloppy joes with classic sides like crispy french fries, or potato salad and coleslaw. Some roasted vegetables or smashed potatoes would also be so tasty.
I’ve also been known to make mac and cheese for the ultimate cozy meal! And my bacon ranch pasta salad also goes great with philly cheesesteak sloppy joes.
