Helpful Tools
How to Make Red White and Blue Strawberries
- Line a clean baking sheet with parchment paper and set it to the side.
- Break up the white chocolate bar into chunks and put it in a microwave safe bowl. Reduce the microwave to 50% power and microwave the white chocolate for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each time.
- Continue this process until the chocolate has melted into a smooth and even consistency.
- Grab a few small bowls and pour each different kind of sprinkle into separate bowls.
- Carefully hold a strawberry by it’s stem and dip the bottom ⅔ into the melted white chocolate. Gently shake off any excess chocolate so that it won’t drip.
- Immediately spoon your choice of sprinkles onto the wet chocolate. Put sprinkles on just the bottom third of the strawberry and leave a white band in the center of the berry.
- Place the covered strawberry on the prepared baking sheet.
- Let your strawberries sit for at least 30 minutes, until the chocolate sets.
- Once set, refrigerate until you’re ready to serve or place on a tray and serve immediately!
How to Store Leftover 4th of July Strawberries
You can store chocolate covered strawberries at room temperature for about 24 hours. Cover the baking sheet lightly with plastic wrap, and enjoy whenever you’re ready.
If you plan to store the berries in the refrigerator, then place a paper towel or two under the berries to soak up any sweating that may happen.
These 4th of July strawberries will not freeze well!
Is white melting chocolate the same as white chocolate chips?
No, these two things are not the same. White melting chocolate will set and create a semi-hard “shell” around the strawberry, white chocolate chips will not. However, if you don’t have white melting chocolate you can mix together one cup of white chocolate chips and one tablespoon of coconut oil.
Dip your strawberries in this mixture and proceed as usual!
Can I use white candy melts?
White candy melts can be used in place of white melting chocolate, but it won’t taste the same. It will still taste good, just not that quintessential taste of chocolate covered strawberries!
What do I do if the chocolate hardens and I’m not done making strawberries?
You should be able to dip each strawberry before the bowl of chocolate begins to harden. However, sometimes white melting chocolate can be finicky! If it starts to harden before you’re done, just pop it back into the microwave at 30 second intervals until smooth and creamy again.
Pro Tips
- If you’re having trouble dipping the strawberries, poke a skewer through the top. Hold onto the skewer as you dip the strawberries and then once the chocolate on the berry is set you can pull the skewer out.
- Be careful not to overheat the white chocolate. Overheated chocolate will seize up and you’ll have to start over.
- Change up the sprinkles to any holiday colors or theme you want for an easy dessert year round.
Enjoy your patriotic strawberries and have a blast during you 4th of July festivities!
