Ingredients for Sour Cream Cookies
- All-purpose flour – No special flour is need for these simple cookies, just regular all purpose flour!
- Baking powder – With heavy ingredients like sour cream, you’ll want to use two different rising agents to make them fluffy.
- Baking soda – Use both baking powder and baking soda in these cookies.
- Salt – Balance the sweetness of these sour cream cookies with a pinch of salt.
- Unsalted butter – Allow the butter to come to room temperature so that it more easily mixes with the other ingredients. You’ll need butter for the frosting too!
- Granulated sugar – Regular white sugar is all you need to sweeten the cookie dough!
- Sour cream – This is the key ingredient to these old fashioned sugar cookies.
- Vanilla extract – Add flavor to your cookies with a bit of vanilla extract.
- Large egg – Let the eggs come to room temperature before using in this recipe.
- Powdered sugar – Make a simple buttercream frosting with powdered sugar, butter and a few other ingredients.
- Heavy whipping cream – If you don’t have heavy cream, you can use half and half or whole milk.
- Clear vanilla extract – While I prefer using clear vanilla extract in frosting, you can use regular. It just may change the color of your homemade frosting a bit.
- Food coloring – Choose whatever color you like!
- Decorating sprinkles – I like to use rainbow sprinkles, but any kind will do. You can also omit them entirely if you prefer.
