Love a salty snack mix recipe? Put a kick in your Chex Mix by seasoning it with taco seasoning. This Taco Chex Mix recipe is the perfect salty snack to keep the munchies away. It’s great for parties, after school snacks, lunches and more!
While I’m at a party there’s nothing like a good Chex Mix, but it’s always fun to mix up the flavors to keep things interesting. That’s why I love this Taco Chex Mix. It’s so easy to make and by making it with taco seasoning it add a kick to it.
If you haven’t had Butter Spindle Pretzels yet, make sure to grab those when making this snack mix!
It’s great for kids after school, sending on the bus when they have activities, or in lunches. I’ve been known to pack it in my own lunch too.
Ingredients Need for Taco Chex Mix!
Best part about this recipe is that there are only six ingredients that you need! If you can’t find the Butter Spindle Pretzels use plain pretzels, but these make it amazing if you can grab them!
I love using my own Taco Seasoning, but you can also grab a packet at the store and use that. If you do, I recommend using a low sodium seasoning.
Steps to Make
As you can see below this is super easy to make. You just dump the ingredients together, mix and bake!
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F.
- Grab a large double lined paper bag or a large mixing bowl.
- Pour the cereal, crackers and pretzels into the bag or mixing bow. Top with taco seasoning and oil. Fold the top down on the bag and shake or stir the ingredients in the bowl until evenly covered.
- Pour chex mix onto two large baking sheets making sure it’s evenly spread out on pan.
- Place in preheated oven for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven, cool completely and store in air tight container.
Microwave Directions
- Mix ingredients in a large microwave safe bowl.
- Microwave on high for 5 minutes, stirring half way through, or until mixture has begun to brown.
- Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool.
- Store in air tight container.
Optional Add-Ins
Mix up your snack mix by adding different items each time you make it. It’s a great way to use up leftover ingredients that are in your pantry. Here are some ideas to get you started!
- Peanuts
- Bugles
- Fritos
- Cheerios
- Goldfish Crackers
- Wheat Chex Cereal
- Popcorn
- Corn Nuts
Expert Tips!
- Use the exact amount of liquid. To little liquid and the seasoning won’t adhere to the mixture, but if you use to much liquid the snack mix will get soggy.
- You can substitute butter for the oil if you’d like. It’s a 1:1 substitution ratio.
- Don’t crowd the snack mix on the pan. If you don’t have two large baking sheets use 3-4 pans. If you crowd the mixture it won’t cook properly and it will make it soggy.
- Snack mix is done baking when it looks dry, not greasy or wet.
- A quick tip is to store it in snack-size resealable bags for taking on car trips, hikes, picnics, lunches and more!

Hi, I was wondering if you could make this Taco Chex Mix in the crockpot instead of the oven?
Julie says
Yes! Mix everything together and cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Then let it cool on wax paper before storing in an airtight container.

We basically inhaled this, it is so good!

Hi, I didn’t use canola, I used bacon grease. 1/4 C and I used waited green chilies as I use them in my chili. I also use mixed nuts. My family loves it. You can use a bit of franks hot sauce instead of chilis but unlike chilis. Thank you for the recipe

You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
