Melt in your mouth White Chocolate Puffcorn is a holiday favorite sweet treat! With only three ingredients it only takes 10 minutes to make plus cooling time. It’s a quick and easy sweet and salty treat to make anytime.
If you need a last-minute easy snack recipe, this white chocolate puffcorn is the answer! It’s sweet, a little salty and whenever I make it our whole family goes nuts for it. They call it the “puffcorn crack recipe” because it’s so good!
I’ve been making puffcorn snacks forever – caramel puffcorn is another favorite! This version is seriously easy with just four ingredients, and one of them is optional.
The Best White Chocolate Puffcorn
- I’ve tweaked my recipe over the years until I’ve landed on the best recipe! It’s easy, it’s delicious, and everyone loves it.
- You only need four ingredients, but the sprinkles are optional. Well, they’re not optional at our house, but feel free to leave them out!
- I’m showing you how to get really smooth and pourable melted white chocolate so you get the perfect coating for your puffcorn.
Ingredients
- Plain puffcorn – look for bags of it in the snack aisle.
- White almond bark – you only need 1 square, and it makes a big difference!
- White chocolate chips
- Sprinkles – choose your favorite!
Products Needed
- Large mixing bowl with a lid
- Saucepan
- Heatproof bowl
- Wax paper
- Large airtight container
How to Melt the Chocolate
I like to melt the chocolate using a double boiler, which is just a fancy way to say “on the stove with a saucepan and bowl.” All you do is fill a saucepan with a couple of inches of water and bring it to a simmer. You can buy a double boiler or use a pot and a bowl to create one of your own!
Place a heatproof bowl on top of the saucepan. The water shouldn’t touch the bottom of the bowl, so if there’s too much, drain some off.
Place the almond bark in the bowl. The heat from the simmering water will melt it. Stir it around until it’s completely melted. You need to melt this separately was the almond bark and chocolate chips melt at different rates. If you don’t do this you’ll end up with a mess.
Add the white chocolate chips and stir them as they melt. Mixing them with the almond bark will make them smoother once melted and easier to pour over the puffcorn.
Coat the Puffcorn
Pour the puffcorn into a large mixing bowl. Pour the melted chocolate over the top. You can stir to coat the puffcorn or, if you have a lid that fits, cover the bowl and shake to coat it evenly. Shaking it is the easiest way to do it fast.
Spread the coated puffcorn onto wax paper. While the coating is still wet, add the sprinkles. Let it sit until the coating has hardened, and then store it in an airtight container.
Make it Any Time of Year!
We love to make it for Christmas, but you can make this any time of year! I’ve made it for football parties, birthdays, Valentine’s day… just switch up the sprinkles and use ones that match the occasion!
Recipe FAQs
I like to use plain – it works better with the white chocolate. So, double check when you buy yours because there are flavored ones.
White chocolate has a high sugar content and can scorch, which is why I prefer the double-boiler. But, you can use the microwave, but just melt it slowly in 30-second increments. Stop to stir between each and be careful not to scorch the chocolate. Make sure you melt the almond bark separately because they melt at different rates and you’ll scorch the white chocolate if you melt them together.
If you keep it in an airtight container it will keep for up to a week.
A reader commented that she used dark chocolate and it was great! If you try switching the chocolate let me know how it worked.
Use the leftover bark to make snowman cookies, pizza cookie bars, or a sweet popcorn snack!
Once you know how to make white chocolate puffcorn, you’ll want to make it for all of your friends and family! It’s great for gifting or for parties. No one can have just one handful – it’s just too good!

This sounds so delicious! But I was wondering if anyone would happen to know the calories for this treat?

I googled this recipe just to see if anyone makes it differently than I do (just in case there were other fab variations out there) I’ve never used the shortening so I’ll have to give that a try! I’ll be curious to see if it makes a a difference. I sprinkle cinnamon on mine and feel that it really makes all the difference in flavor. You’ll have to check it out 🙂
Julie Evink says
Yes I do it with cinnamon and love it! The shortening will just thin out the mixture a little and I find it helps it cover it easier!
Janet says
I’ve made this with the Chocolate Bark and it turned out beautifully. My boss told me it was sinful and she hated me! That good! I just happen to prefer the white chocolate.
Julie Evink says
Chocolate is totally great too, but like you I prefer the white!
Natashalh says
My fiancé would love this! He adores white chocolate treats and he loves popcorn, so I’m sure he’d like puff corn, too.
Julie Evink says
Yes he would!

I had never heard of puff corn, until a friend gave me some of the lovely stuff and also got the recipe you have posted. Only problem, I have never seen puff corn. Where in the world can I get it?- I live in the Pacific Northwest, near the US border.
Julie Evink says
In my grocery store you find it by the bags of pre-popped popcorn!
Diana Ramsey says
Thanks for your reply. A friend has since told me that they are in The Great Canadian Superstore, where I will be headed tomorrow.

Janet says
It’s made by Cheetoh’s, but I had to hunt for it in the aisle at WalMart.
If you can’t find it, try http://olddutch.bobsproduce.com/puffcorncurls.aspx
to order on-line.
All though pop corn would likely work also.
Julie Evink says
Thanks for the tips Janet!

I am going to check the stores in Bellingham on Jan.1st when I go for lunch with some friends. Could not find the puff corn in any stores here, and I went to Real Canadian Superstore, Canadian Tire ( I was told by a friend she had seen it there)
and 3 large grocery chains all in my area.
Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it very much.
Spinnin Jenny says
Thanks Janet for the link. I didn’t have the foggiest idea what puffed corn was. I thought this might be referring to corn puffs cereal, so I’m grateful for the link.
I broke a tooth on popcorn, a long time ago, and don’t eat popcorn anymore. Would this cause me to break another tooth?
Julie Evink says
Not at all! Super soft and melts in your mouth. You’ll be fine!
Janet says
Oh, no, I found this very ‘safe’ to eat – for my dental work and kids. Using dark chocolate, it tastes like old fashioned honeycomb, but it doesn’t get hard like that. White chocolate with decorative sprinkles is festive and tasty, just not my preference.
Janet says
I made this using the dark Chocolate. Turned out great – like old time Honey Comb. Had none left at the office party.
Great recipe! Thanks.
Julie Evink says
Ohh that sounds great! Glad you enjoyed it Janet!
Janet says
I found the puffed corn at WalMart, had to hunt for it though.
I melted the white chocolate in my little crockpot and it was perfect!
Maybe I’ll try it with the dark chocolate the next time.
Super simple! My girls loved it. I was afraid I might not have enough to ship off to my son in the military…
Julie Evink says
Ohhh that sounds amazing too! I’m so glad there was enough for your son too. I hope he knows how much we appreciate people that serve our country! Happy Holidays!
Bobbie Gillispie says
A manager at work brought some to work for us employees to enjoy and when I asked how to make it she said it was a secret family recipe. After asking her to make me some to bring home ( said I would pay) over and over I finally looked online and found yours. It’s exactly the same. Some secret LOL. THANK U SO MUCH!! Now if I can only find some puffed corn.
Julie Evink says
To funny! I’m glad you found the “secret” recipe!! Puffed corn is usually by the pre-popped popcorn in the bags and by the chips!
Bobbie Gillispie says
I am having trouble finding puffed corn. Any suggestions where to get some? PLEASE HELP!! Thank you.
Janet says
Where the recipe says 1 aquare; do you mean one ounce or the entire square block of Almond Bark?
Recipe says 1 bag white chocolate chips; is this 6, 12, 16 or 24 ounces.
Sorry to be so OC, but I don’t get adventurous until I’ve made it exactly a couple of times.
Julie Evink says
Closer to the one oz. My Almond Bark has individual squares it’s broke down into!
Julie Evink says
11.5 oz bag.
Blake V. says
Hi! going to make this tomorrow… my local store only sells a 15 Oz bag of puffs… When you say “one bag” how much are you talking? if I’m going to use my whole 15 Oz bag, I need to know if I should double all the other ingredients. thanks!
Julie Evink says
I would double the melted white chocolate sauce to put on it!
JulienDavis says
Love this recipe. Wanted to do a dark chocolate drizzle over the top but I kept getting it on too thick when I just used a spoon to drizzle. Finally solved my problem by using a turkey injector needle. I filled the tube with chocolate and then squirted it out through the holes at the end. Came out beautifully and not gloppy. Hope this helps someone else that wants to drizzle.
Julie Evink says
Great tip! Thanks!
