Hot Fudge Sauce

Easy homemade hot fudge sauce recipe that is the perfect topping for your bowl of ice cream!

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 c. cream
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla


  • In a small saucepan mix together sugar and cocoa until combined. Add cream and stir.
  • Bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute. Be careful not to scrape down the mixture on the sides of the pans. This will make the fudge crystallize.
  • Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Stir until butter is melted. Serve immediately.

Yes, it needs to be refrigerated. It will keep for up to two weeks as long as it's stored in an airtight container.

How do you reheat it?

You can reheat homemade it either on the stove or in the microwave. Warm it slowly and stir until it's smooth and shiny.

Can Hot Fudge Sauce be frozen?

Yes, you can freeze it in an airtight container for several months. You will want to first thaw it in the refrigerator and then reheat it either on the stove top or in the microwave. If the sauce is too thick you can thin it with some extra cream or milk.
