Ingredients

  • 8 oz package cream cheese softened
  • 14.3 oz package OREO cookies
  • 8 oz melting wafers or baking chocolate
  • optional toppings: OREO crumbs, nuts, sprinkles, drizzled melted chocolate, mints, nuts

Instructions

  • Place OREO cookies in food processor or blender and pulse until they are finely ground. You can also put them in a gallon resealable bag and crush with rolling pin if you don't have a blender or food processor.
  • Using a stand mixer or hand mixer beat cream cheese until light and fluffy, about 1 minute. Add the OREO crumbs to cream cheese and mix until well combined.
  • Roll the OREO mixture into small balls and place on a baking sheet or tray that's been lined with parchment or wax paper. Freeze OREO balls for 15 minutes.
  • Place the melting wafers or baking chocolate in small microwaveable safe bowl and melt according to directions on package.
  • Remove the balls from the freezer, dip them into the melted chocolate making sure to completely cover the balls and place the dipped balls back on the baking tray that's been lined. Top with optional toppings if desired.
  • Place the baking sheet with OREO balls on it in the refrigerator and chill for at least a hour. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. You can store them in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Notes

Optional Toppings for Oreo Balls
  • I like to coat my Oreo Balls in two different kinds of chocolate - I coat half of them in white chocolate and the other half in regular chocolate.
  • Drizzle the balls with the opposite chocolate - so, for the white ones I drizzle them with regular chocolate and the chocolate ones with white chocolate!
  • You can also top your Oreo Balls with more crushed Oreos.
  • Or, sprinkle the tops with finely chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts.
  • You can also decorate the balls with colored sprinkles!
  • For a peppermint twist, top the balls with crushed peppermint candies.

How to dip Oreo Balls

You can just drop the Oreo ball in the melted chocolate and, using a spoon or fork, roll it around in the chocolate and then lift it out but this can get a little messy and your truffles may not be as pretty! So here is another way to do it so you get evenly coated Oreo balls:
  • Insert a toothpick into each ball.
  • Use the toothpick to dip the ball in the melted chocolate and roll it around to completely coat it.
  • Lift the ball out and allow the excess chocolate to drip off before placing the ball on the baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the balls.
  • Once the balls are chilled, remove the toothpicks and drizzle each ball with chocolate and chill them again to set the chocolate.
