Ingredients

  • 5-6 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 oranges
  • 4 sticks of cinnamon
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp allspice
  • ½ tbsp ground ginger
  • ¼ c. brown sugar
  • 5 c. water

Instructions

  • Core and cut apples, cut oranges into fourths. Do not peel.
  • Place fruit into the instant pot. Add cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and water.
  • Seal and set on pressure cook, high for 25 minutes
  • Allow natural release. Open the lid to mash apples and oranges and stir. Let stew for 2-3 minutes
  • Strain through a cheesecloth. Add ¼ cup of brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Serve warm and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Notes

  • Once you’ve learned how to make it, you can easily adjust the ingredients to your tastes like adjusting the amount of spices.
  • You can also change up the kind of apples you use. I love using tart Granny Smiths but you can also use sweeter apples like Gala, Fuji, or Golden Delicious. Pink Ladies and Honey Crisp would work great, too! Or, try using a mix of apples.
  • If you’re making this for a party it’s fun to make spiked apple cider with bourbon or brandy.
  • You can make this apple cider ahead and store it in the refrigerator. Just warm it up on the stove or you can warm it up in your crock pot for parties. Makes it really easy to serve!
