Instant Pot {Pressure Cooker} Ham & Penne Pasta ~ Our Favorite Meal Now in the Instant Pot! Only One Dish to Clean and You Have an Easy Dinner Recipe!
Fixer Upper….what a trend! Can you imgaine being the brain power behind that? And what doesn’t Jo and Chip do? Now Chip is writing a book! Trust me, I love them as much as the next person but I wonder how they do it all. They have to have a lot of “people” in their corner don’t you think?
Sometimes people ask me how I do it all and I seem boring to them! I do love their style. I dream of having some shiplap in my house!
You know what other trend I adore right now? The Instant Pot trend! LOVE LOVE LOVE! First of all I love One Pot recipes, but the fact that I can do a One Pot recipe in my Instant Pot and not even have to worry about stirring it? WIN! What crazy busy Mom doesn’t like that? Throw it in the Instant Pot and forget it. You can clean up, unload the dishwasher, spend up time with the kids, fold a load of laundry, OR sit down, put your feet up and watch some crap television for a few minutes!
This recipe is an adaption of my One Pot Ham & Penne Skillet which has been CRAZY popular since I first posted it a few years ago. It goes nuts over Easter because of all that leftover ham, but really you can make this any time of year!
If you haven’t joined the Instant Pot craze yet, I have only one questions for you. What on earth are you waiting for??
If you are scared of the Instant Pot and haven’t used yours yet, like I was. Really, I was. My friends were using it all the time and I left mine in the closet collecting dust because I was nervous to use it! I assure you that it’s not hard, this is the perfect recipe to start with. You really can’t go wrong with it and the entire family will love it. Plus, you’ll be an Instant Pot junkie just like I am now!

It came out perfect !

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!

This was amazing. Great way to use leftover cooked ham from the holidays. My teen son couldn’t get enough. The only thing I would change is to add the peas after everything has cooked since they don’t need much time to heat through. Otherwise they smash too easily in the dish.
Julie Evink says
So glad you enjoyed it! Adding them at the end would be a great option!
Ali says
I think the flavor was pretty good, but mine looked curdled when it was done pressure cooking. The peas and ham are very cooked…maybe less time in the pressure cool.
Barbara says
Planning on trying this soon! Just got my pot today! Quick question, the video and the directions are different – the directions say to sauté the ham, but in the video it’s added later. Does it matter? Thank you!
Julie Evink says
No you can do either.
Simone says
My daughter is gluten free. Has anyone tried a different type of noodle? Lentil-based or rice/corn?
ChristineM says
Made it. Flavour is good. I used cheddar cheese for my kids and added peas. Followed quantities but I think that the cook time is too long. For other pasta recipes, time averages on high/manual pressure for 5 minutes. I will try a lesser pressure cook time next round.

Glad you and your family enjoyed it!

Just tried this recipe for the first time and it turned out great. I don’t have an instant pot, but the crock pot brand version instead. I used the “Rice/Risotto” setting and adjusted the time to match this. I made sure to stir in the pasta into the liquid before starting and it turned out amazing! I think this dish would also work cold as a pasta salad type thing for a pot luck as well.

So glad you enjoyed this recipe Michelle!

I used the recipe tonight and it came out great! The only thing I did differently was substitute the peas with artichoke hearts. I had no trouble with the pasta. I stirred it into the liquid before cooking.

I am looking to buy an Instant Pot and would like to know what model you use. I adapted your recipe to my electric pressure coôker but used what I had in my pantry. I substituted a bit of dried garlic, a can of green bean and 12 oz box of bow tie pasta. The dish was delicious and the pasta cooked al denote like we enjoy it. The sauce was creamy. Thanks!

I have heard that flour/corn starch is bad for the pot and should be added in after it’s done cooking and pressure releasing. I decided not to risk it and left it out. I agree… next time less pasta and only 5 min cooking. I added cream cheese (3 Tbs) to thicken it.

What is the serving size on this recipe?
Jenn D says
This was our first instapot meal tonight. Was super concerned about the liquid to other stuff ratio. It turned out perfectly. The peas were a bit over cooked for me but all tasty.
Julie Evink says
Hi Jenn! Thanks for letting us know and for others to read and adjust to their preferences!

Hi! Fairly new to the instant pot and stumbled upon this recipe. I had to increase the chicken broth because it threw up the “burn code”. I had to google what to do next. It had absorbed all of the liquid before it could cook.
Praying that it turns out okay now that I’ve scraped the bottom and added more broth.
Smells amazing though!
Crystal says
So..after trying it again it still failed and soaked up liquid and threw the burn code up again. Not sure why. I followed all instructions and measurements. Luckily by the time it tried to build up pressure twice the noodles were done so we were able to eat it.
Although I will stick to stovetop for this next time my toddler loved it and ate the whole plate.
Jen says
Crystal- if you used the “high” or “more” setting, that could be the problem. Use the “normal” ( I have the instant pot lux) or standard setting and it should come out fine. At first it looked like there was liquid left over, but if you let it sit for a couple of minutes, stir – it will be absorbed by the pasta.
Sally says
Thanks I will try that next time.
Sally says
Mine did the same. This is the first time my instant pot has had the “Burn” signal. Not sure how I will finish the meal.
Smells and looks delicious though.

I’m new to the IP and just made this recipe. We loved it! Mine came out as more of a soup, but the noodles were done perfectly. I did substitute broccoli for the peas and rotini pasta for the penne. Just used what I had on hand and it turned out great. Thanks!
Julie Evink says
Glad you enjoyed it anyways!
Kristi says
I made this for supper tonight and I’m sorry to say it wasn’t the greatest. My husband thought there were too many noodles. Some noodles were undercooked and it was dry. I think it would have been better as a skillet meal.
Carol says
I wondered about it being a bit dry. Thanks for the honest review!
