How to Make 4th of July Cookies
In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, room temperature eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla with a hand mixer or stand mixer. Mix until thoroughly incorporated.
Place the mixed cookie dough into the refrigerator to chill for 20 minutes.
While the dough is chilling, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
Once the cookie dough has chilled, scoop it into 1 to 1 ½-inch balls and place them onto the baking sheet, a few inches apart.
Place the loaded cookie sheet into the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes.
Allow the cookies to cool a bit on the baking sheet until they’re firm enough to move to a cooling rack. Then, allow them to cool completely before dipping them in chocolate.

Melt each of the red, white, and blue melting chocolates in separate microwave safe bowls. Microwave at 30 second intervals and stir until the consistency is smooth and creamy.
Line a second baking sheet with parchment paper.
Dip half of a completely cooled cookie into your selected color of chocolate. Set the dipped cookie onto the lined baking sheet and immediately add sprinkles.
Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature, or pop the cookies into the fridge to speed up the process.
Enjoy!
How to Store Leftover Fourth of July Cookies
Place leftover cookies into an airtight container or ziploc bag and store at room temperature for 3 days. You can also store cookies in the refrigerator or freezer!
FRIDGE: To extend the life of your cookies, store them in the fridge for up to 5 days. If you know your kitchen will be warm, store cookies in the fridge so that the chocolate does not get tacky or melt.
FREEZER: You can freeze undecorated fourth of July cookies. Place them in an airtight container with parchment paper between layers, and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw them and decorate as normal when you’re ready to serve!
Do I have to refrigerate the dough?
Don’t skip this step! It can be tempting to move on and just go straight to baking your cookies, but there is purpose in chilling the dough. When you chill the dough for these easy cookies, it helps them not to spread too much in the oven. This will keep them fluffy and the perfect soft texture!
Pro Tips!
- Don’t over bake your cookies! Once they are set around the edges and slightly golden brown, they’re done. Cake mix cookies will set a little more firmly once they cool.
- Be gentle when dipping each cookie in the chocolate as they are more fragile and could break.
- Add sprinkles immediately after dipping each cookie so that they will stick!

Get creative making these patriotic cookies! And don’t forget to have so much fun!
