I know, a dessert bar made with corn chips? I doubted too, but let me say, I’m a believer and you will be, too! Frito bars are the ultimate combo of sweet and salty, not to mention they’re a cinch to make.
What Are Frito Bars?
These are no-bake bars made with crunchy Frito corn chips, peanut butter, and chocolate. If you’ve ever had a scotcharoo, they’re similar.
These are as easy to make as rice krispie treats and so delicious! If you’re a peanut butter and chocolate fan, you will love this easy recipe.
Every time I share these with family and friends I have to remember to print off copies of the recipes – everyone always asks for it! When you try them, you’ll see for yourself – these are amazing bars that will get you rave reviews.
Ingredients for Frito Bars
- Fritos – you will need two 9.25-ounce bags. This recipe makes a big batch!
- Granulated sugar
- Light corn syrup
- Vanilla extract – Splurge for real vanilla extract. It’s worth it.
- Creamy peanut butter – Make sure it’s not all natural peanut butter. You won’t the cheap, creamy kind!
- Mini chocolate chips – Mini chips work best because they are sprinkled over the top of the bars.
How to Make Frito Bars
Combine the sugar and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil for one minute and then remove the pan from the heat.
Add the peanut butter and vanilla and stir until he mixture is smooth. Pour the peanut butter mixture over the Fritos and mix so the chips are coated evenly.
Press half of the Frito mixture into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the chocolate chips over the top. Add the rest of the Frito mixture and spread it in an even layer. Sprinkle the rest of the chips over the top.
Leave the bars at room temperature so the can set. You can also chill them until you’re ready to serve them. Slice into bars for serving.
How Should You Store Frito Bars?
Once the bars are set, you can cover the pan with plastic wrap and store them at room temperature for a few days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
You can also freeze them for several months! I like to slice them into bars and wrap them individually in plastic wrap. Place the wrapped Frito peanut butter bars in a freezer bag and they will keep well for several months.
No-Bake Bars Variations
This is such a fun recipe because you can easily switch it up with different add-ins!
- Instead of creamy peanut butter, try crunchy peanut butter to add a different texture.
- You can use any kind of chocolate chips for this recipe including white chocolate chips.
- Or, swap the chocolate chips for Reese’s pieces, chopped peanut butter cups, or M&Ms.
- I think some sprinkles on top would be cute, too! You can use different colors to match the holiday or event you’re serving them at.
It doesn’t get any easier than a 15-minute dessert recipe! These Frito bars will be a hit when you make them. Try them soon and I know you’ll love them.

I’ve had a similar bar before — but it was just the Fritos spread out in the bottom of a pan and then the pb mixture poured over the top and then drizzled with chocolate. That way though you get a lot of chips that barely have anything on them. I like the idea of mixing it up together so everything gets coated well…not sure why I never thought of that before?! Genious! I might just make some this weekend. I can almost taste that salty sweet amazingness already. Thanks 🙂
Julie Evink says
This recipe actually started as that recipe! I just changed a few things to make my own twist on it of course! You’ll have to let me know if you like them!
Tanya Schroeder says
Fritos are soooo good! I’d say this is THE perfect salty sweet combo Julie! Do you really need to refrigerate for an hour? I’m not sure I could wait, I’d probably cut into them right after I drizzle on the chocolate!
Julie Evink says
Nope I just left them on my counter to cool. You can dig right in just be ready for a mess like I was. I couldn’t wait!
Mary. says
You never said, to “chill for about an hour before cutting into squares” right?

I’ve never heard of white syrup. What is it?
Julie Evink says
Same as light corn syrup. I’ve updated the recipe!
Veronica says
This is neat – I’ve never seen it called white syrup anywhere besides on a recipe my 94-year-old grandmother gave me, which she got from her own Grandmother. I think it must have been called that before we started calling it corn syrup!
Julie Evink says
Funny you should say that. It’s probably an old recipe. I got it from a lady at work!
Nicole says
