Ingredients for Buddy the Elf Snack Mix
- Rice Chex – This is the best cereal to use for snack mix since it’s plain and will take on the flavor of anything you add to it!
- Bugles – A little salty to the sweet is always welcome.
- Kettle popcorn – You can definitely use salted popcorn if you’d like some more salty with the sweet, but I personally love kettle corn in this Christmas snack mix recipe.
- Powdered sugar – Use powdered sugar to sweeten this yummy buddy the elf snack mix.
- White chocolate chips – White chocolate chips helps keep this snack mix light and focused on Christmas colors. You can use milk chocolate or semi-sweet if you prefer, just know that your snack mix will be much darker.
- Chow mein noodles – While it may sound wierd to use chow mein noodles in chex mix, they really just add great crunch! You’ll love them!
- Mini marshmallows – Marshmallows make everything better, and they’re the perfect touch in elf chex mix.
- Peanut M&Ms – Use the red and green peanut M&Ms to stay on theme with Christmas. If you don’t like peanut M&Ms, regular ones work great.
- Holiday sprinkles – Grab your favorite Christmas themed sprinkles to liven up this tasty chex mix!

What can I add to Buddy the Elf snack mix?
You can really add anything to this tasty mix! While the recipe calls for melted white chocolate chips, you can also add in some unmelted chips.
Cookie pieces and extra candy would be super tasty, and you could add a peppermint touch by sprinkling crushed candy canes over the cereal when it is still wet. Pretzels would be a nice salty crunch, and vanilla wafer would be a fun sweet crunch.
Really you can add or substitute anything you want. Feel free to change up the cereal you use and swap out any other ingredients to adapt this recipe.
Pro Tips for the Best Elf Chex Mix
- Make sure to spread the chocolate coated cereal in a thin enough layer so that all of the chocolate can easily harden.
