Need a quick and easy side dish that’s healthy? Air Fryer Asparagus is so easy with only a few ingredients. This asparagus is perfectly roasted in a fraction of the time it takes in the oven. The best way to enjoy fresh asparagus!
One of my favorite side dishes is roasted asparagus and my new favorite way to make it is in my air fryer! Air fryer asparagus is so easy and it hardly takes any time at all.
Plus, it cooks perfectly so there’s no guessing – now worries about overcooking it or ending up with mushy asparagus. When you cook it in the air fryer it comes out perfectly tender and crisp every time.
We eat a lot of asparagus during the spring and this recipe is easy enough for a weeknight. We love it with chicken and rice, baked meatballs and gravy and Parmesan-crusted pork chops!
It’s also a great holiday side dish – while your honey baked ham is in the oven you can cook the asparagus in the air fryer and save space in the oven. I love a side dish that you can make for any occasion!
When is Asparagus in Season?
It’s in season during the spring season between February and June, although you can usually find it at grocery stores all year round. Have you ever noticed that there are skinny ones and thicker ones? They’re basically the same except for the size and the thicker ones are much better for cooking in your air fryer or roasting in the oven.
How to Prep Asparagus
Before you cook it, you will want to trim the ends. The ends are tough and fibrous and you can trim them a couple of ways:
- Hold one stalk and bend it. It will naturally break where the tough end meets the more tender part.
- Or, you can use a knife and trim an inch or two off the ends. You can do this with several at a time to make it faster.
You don’t want to just toss it in the air fryer – be sure to doctor them up with some seasonings! Coating them in some oil will help them crisp up as they cook and a little garlic powder, salt and pepper give them the perfect amount of seasoning.
How to Cook it in an Air Fryer
Once you’ve done the trimming it’s super easy to get it ready to go in the air fryer:
- Coat the stalks in olive oil and place them in the air fryer. Sprinkle the garlic powder, salt and pepper over the top.
- Adjust the temperature to 390 degrees F and cook them for 8 to 9 minutes.
Keep an eye on them while they cook – depending on how thick the stalks are you may need more or less time.
Transfer the cooked asparagus to a serving dish and garnish with lemon wedges. I love the fresh-squeezed lemon juice over the top it!
Other Ways to Dress it Up
What I love about this recipe is that you can change up the seasonings and garnishes depending on what you like! Here are some other ways to season it:
- Add some dried herbs like parsley, thyme, oregano or Italian seasoning before you cook them.
- You can coat them in flavored oils if you have them on hand – olive oil flavored with garlic, herbs, and other seasonings is an easy way to dress them up.
- For serving, try adding some grated Parmesan or Asiago cheese sprinkled over the top.
- Add some chopped fresh herbs before you serve them, too! Parsley or chives would work great.
Have you added fresh asparagus to your grocery list yet? I think you’re going to want to make this easy side as soon as possible! It’s so easy there’s no excuse to not eat your veggies!
