Cheesy Fish Stick Hash Brown Casserole Recipe ~ Your Favorite Hash Brown Casserole Topped with Crunch Fish Sticks to Make it a Main Dish Casserole!

Disclosure: Gorton’s has compensated me for my time to create this recipe. Thank you for supporting the brands that make Julie’s Eats & Treats possible. All thoughts are my own.
It seems the rest of you are with me on one thing. Hash Brown Casseroles are to die for and that’s the truth. You all loved when I made a main dish out of this favorite casserole last time, so I decided it was high time that I made another one!
This time I took a fish spin on it! I topped it with fish sticks and added sweet relish to it for a delicious dinner recipe.
Do you remember meals of childhood that you always looked forward too, yet you think about it now and it was some of the simplest meals? It didn’t matter because you still loved them and I’m guessing mom was thinking WIN because she didn’t have to do much work!
I know if my kids eat recipes that are super simple I’m always doing a happy dance around the kitchen thinking that I scored the lottery that night!
Getting them to eat is hard enough, but when you get them to eat and it’s an easy recipe that is a cinch to make, that’s like a double win right there. I might as go buy a power ball ticket! Apparently this doesn’t happen very often because I don’t buy many power ball tickets!
I remember my Mom always making Gorton’s Fish Sticks, hash browns and green beans for dinner. It was one of the simple meals that the entire family ate and smiled about it. I’m surprised she didn’t feed it to us every single meal!
Since we loved it so much I decided to take it and put “my” spin on that meal. It turned out to be a casserole because casseroles always are amazing right? Oh, and I added some cheese. You can’t go wrong with adding cheese! I took my Mom’s Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole Recipe added a few more spices, peas and topped it with Gorton’s Fish Stick for an amazing meal that the whole family, from young to old, will love! Plus, most of the ingredients are probably already in your house!

Apparently there are other Mom’s feeling the same way about their children eating fish sticks and loving how easy they are. One of my closest friends saw this casserole on my Instagram story when I was making and immediately asked what the recipe was because she was sure her fish stick loving son would love it!
Every time I see everyone’s favorite trustworthy, yellow-slicker- donning fisherman on the Gorton’s Fish Stick bag as the store I’m brought back to my childhood. Reminiscing of Mom grabbing the bag out of the freezer and looking forward to dinner! Apparently a lot of families must have the same feeling because Gorton’s is 167 years old! That’s just craziness!

I had to scroll through pages of unnecessary comment to finally find a recipe that lazily uses canned soup and frozen potatoes instead of actually making real food

I made this the other evening. Was a hit. I did not have creamed of chicken but used cream of mushroom. Worked great. Will make again.

So glad you enjoyed it!

On the Fish Stick Hashbrown and Pea casserole. Do the Peas have to be frozen?
Julie Evink says
No it should work fine if they aren’t frozen, just might be a tad bit more mushy.
Papa Woof Roth says
Yeah you are def missing the 2 cups of shredded cheese. I looked at other versions of the recipes and they list it. 2 cups Mexican bland cheese. We shopped based on your recipe and luckily we had shredded cheese on hand
Julie Evink says
I’m sorry you felt it needed more cheese, but I did not put in an additional two cups of cheese. It has plenty of cheese in my opinion the way it is. Feel free to adapt to your preferences.
Barbara Tayne says
there is no cheese listed in the ingredients that I could see. It mentions it in the directions.
