Ingredients for Crockpot Pizza Casserole
- Ground beef – Keep this casserole from getting greasy by using lean ground beef. Ground turkey and ground chicken are lean options that work well in this dish too.
- Onion – Dice up yellow or white onion to add extra flavor to this crock pot pizza casserole. While you’re at it, some freshly minced garlic cloves would be a tasty addition.
- Canned tomato sauce – You’ll need a 15oz can of tomato sauce.
- Jarred pizza sauce – Grab a jar of store-bought pizza sauce or make homemade pizza sauce.
- Tomato paste – Yes, you need all three tomato based ingredients! It makes this casserole extra saucy and flavorful.
- Spiral pasta – Rotini and fusilli pasta work great in this dish. You can also use penne pasta, rigatoni, or even farfalle. Just a small/short type of pasta.
- Sliced pepperoni – You can’t have pepperoni pizza casserole without pepperonis. Grab a pack of your favorite pepperoni slices to use in this recipe.
- Shredded mozzarella cheese – For the most gooey and melty results, shred your own cheese from a block.

Can I use different pizza toppings in this casserole?
Yes, you can customize this crockpot pizza casserole recipe with all of you favorite pizza toppings! Depending on what you choose, make sure the toppings are cooked before they go in the crock pot.
- Instead of ground beef try Italian sausage. If you like spicy food, then try using hot Italian sausage! Just remove the sausage from the casings and cook it as you would the ground beef before adding to the slow cooker.
- Switch out the pepperoni for sliced Genoa salami. Or, try some Canadian bacon.
- If you want to add some veggies, just be sure to cook them on the stove first to soften them and remove their excess moisture. Bell peppers, red onions, spinach, and mushrooms would all work great.
- Try some different cheese – switch out the mozzarella for provolone and add some grated parmesan cheese, too. Even cheddar cheese would be tasty!
