- This recipe would be a super great treat for kids to make on their own. There aren’t any complicated steps or skills you have to have in order to make chocolate bark.
Ingredients for Patriotic Chocolate Bark
- White candy melts – White candy melts or white chocolate chips will be these base of your red white and blue bark. You can typically find these in the baking aisle of your local grocery store.
- M&M’s or chocolate candies – Get some M&Ms that are red and blue! They should be easy to find since they are usually sold in the holiday aisles around the 4th of July.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips – This recipe calls for semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate if you prefer.
- Sprinkles – Use some red white and blue sprinkles for extra fun decorations!.
How to Make Patriotic Bark
Line a clean baking sheet with parchment paper and then set it to the side.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt the white chocolate candy melts. Microwave at 30 second intervals until the chips begin to melt. Stir and then continue microwaving at 15 second intervals until the candy is smooth and creamy.
Pour the white chocolate onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet, and spread it into an even layer that is about ¼-⅓ inch thick.
In a separate bowl, begin microwaving the chocolate chips in 10 second intervals, until melted.
Drizzle the melted semi-sweet chocolate over the white chocolate layer on the baking sheet.
Add M&M’s and sprinkles to the white chocolate bark while it is still wet.
Freeze for 20 minutes, or until fully set. Then, break the bark into pieces once set and enjoy!
How to store Leftover Patriotic Bark
You can keep red white and blue bark at room temperature, but it is best stored in the refrigerator. Especially if your kitchen is warm, keep this chocolate bark in the fridge.
FRIDGE: Place leftovers in an airtight container or Ziploc bag and store in the fridge for up to a week.
FREEZER: Store leftovers in a bag or airtight container and keep in the freezer for up to 2 months. Let the bark thaw to a softer consistency before eating.
What toppings can I add to patriotic bark?
You can add a wide variety of tasty toppings to this easy patriotic bark. Crunch up pretzel sticks, cookies, or candy like heath bar and use as toppings.
Or, add nuts like pecans, walnuts, peanuts, or cashews. You can also give this bark a little more flair by adding edible glitter and swirling it into the melted white chocolate.
Does homemade chocolate bark melt easily?
Since everything but the sprinkles are chocolate, yes it will melt quickly in heat. You can keep it at room temperature with no issues if you chill it well while it is setting. However, don’t put it on an outdoor dessert table in the summer heat!
Pro Tips!
- Drizzle the semi-sweet chocolate, and add M&M’s and sprinkles quickly before the white chocolate sets.
- Use this as a base recipe for any holiday! Change up the sprinkles and M&M colors and theme this bark for whatever holiday you want.
- If you have to serve this bark in a warm area, keep it in the freezer up until serving. That way, it’s super cold and will take longer to melt.
This patriotic chocolate bark is so easy and so addictively good! Have fun making it and enjoy!
