Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- You can meal prep your bacon strips ahead of time and whip up this salad anytime.
- The dressing for BLT salad is made simply from mayo and ranch dressing, two things I know you’ve already got in your fridge!
- This bacon salad is hearty enough that it can be your whole meal. Perfect for a lighter lunch if you know you’re going to have a big supper and vice versa.
Ingredients for BLT Salad
- Mayonnaise – Full fat mayo is the tastiest base for this salad. I do not recommend swapping for sour cream or Greek yogurt. Stick to mayo.
- Ranch dressing – Classic ranch adds extra flavor to this dish. Use your favorite storebought or try to make a homemade ranch dressing.
- Seasoning – Salt and ground black pepper.
- Cherry tomatoes – Halved tomatoes work great without adding too much extra liquid. You can also use grape tomatoes.
- Cheddar cheese – Shredded cheddar mixes really well and is easy to prepare. If you’re feeling fancy, cut up small cubes.
- Red onion – Diced red onion adds the perfect kick to this dish.
- Lettuce – This salad is dressed for at least an hour before serving, so I recommend using romaine lettuce because it is so hearty.
- Croutons – You didn’t think we were going to completely leave out the bread did you? Use your favorite storebought croutons or try making homemade.
- Bacon – Crumble up or chop your favorite type of bacon for this hearty salad.
How To Make BLT Salad
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ranch dressing, pepper and salt until combined.
Add tomatoes, cheese, red onion and lettuce to the dressing mixture and toss.
Chill in the fridge for at least 1-2 hours or overnight.
Add bacon and croutons and stir to combine. Serve.
Pro Tips
- This is the perfect way to use up leftover chicken. Add it to your salad for extra protein.
- If you have fresh parsley or fresh chives on hand, chop them up and top the salad with them to serve adding a little extra flavor.
Storage
I recommend consuming this salad in one sitting. Once croutons have been folded into the salad, I don’t recommend storing this dish because the croutons will turn soggy.
If you know you won’t eat the whole salad at once, leave the croutons out and on the side.
Creamy dressing with fresh tomatoes, onion and lettuce topped with bacon and croutons, this salad is perfect as a meal or a side dish. Everyone will be raving about it!
