Ingredients For Chocolate Bread
- All-purpose flour – This is the more common type of flour, making it easily accessible and most people will already have this on hand.
- Cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder gives this bread it’s rich flavor.
- Baking soda – This is one of two leavening agents in this chocolate bread.
- Baking powder – The second leavening agent. We use two to balance the flavor of the bread and make a nice fluffy texture.
- Brown sugar – Adds sweetness, color and a nice caramelized flavor.
- White sugar – Adds to the sweetness of the chocolate bread and offsets the bitterness from the cocoa powder.
- Salt – This will balance the flavors.
- Eggs – Leave eggs out at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.
- Vanilla extract – A little vanilla always enhances the flavor of baking.
- Vegetable oil – You can also use canola oil.
- Buttermilk – This is so easy to make at home so you don’t buy a big carton that might go to waste.
- Chocolate chips – Add chocolate chips or chunks directly to the batter and then sprinkle some on top for the ultimate chocolate flavor. Get creative and use different types of chips such as milk chocolate, white chocolate or butterscotch.

Why Did My Chocolate Bread Turn Out Dry?
It is possible that you overbaked the loaf. Be sure to keep an eye on it toward then end of baking time. The chocolate bread is ready when a toothpick somes back clean or with a. fewmoist crumbs.
Another possibility is that the batter was overmixed. Carefully fold the wet and dry ingredients together until just combined.
