A sweet and delicious treat for breakfast.

French Toast Sticks made easy in the air fryer! I love to make homemade French toast for the family, but I don’t love standing at the stove having to flip it and then figure out how to keep them warm while I made the rest of the batch. So, I started making French toast sticks in my skillet and now I have this air fryer recipe!
I love this recipe because it means I don’t have to turn on the stove or the oven. During the summer this is especially appreciated! I hate overheating the house and so making crispy, cinnamon-coated French toast in my air fryer makes me so very happy. I’m a lot happier when I stay cool in the kitchen!
My air fryer recipe collection just keeps growing – there are so many great ways to use it and I think you will love this easy breakfast recipe!

The Best Air Fryer French Toast!
Cooking French toast in your air fryer is just like cooking it on the stove or in the oven – you need all of the same ingredients and there aren’t any complicated steps.
Like regular French toast, be sure to use thick-sliced bread. I love to use Texas toast for all of my French toast recipes, but it’s really important if you’re making sticks. You want them to be sturdy enough so you can pick them up – thick bread is the key!
My recipe has a cinnamon-twist and I think you will love it. It just takes them to a whole new level!
How to Make French Toast Sticks from Scratch
- Prep Bread – First, cut each slice of bread into three sticks.
- Prep Air Fryer – Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Make Batter – Combine the eggs, heavy cream, and vanilla in a shallow bowl. Dip each piece in the mixture, coating it on all sides. You don’t want to soak it in the batter, just leave it long enough so it’s totally coated.
- Cook – Place the battered sticks in the air fryer in an even layer with space between each one. Turn the temperature to 360 degrees F and cook them for six minutes. Flip them over and cook them for one to three minutes longer or until they are golden and crispy. Repeat with the rest of the sticks.
Don’t Forget the Cinnamon Coating!
While the sticks are cooking, melt butter in the microwave. Coat each piece in the butter and then roll them in a cinnamon-sugar mixture. It adds so much flavor and a sugary, crunchy coating. My kiddos love it!
Serve them while they’re warm! You can enjoy them plain or add some of your favorite toppings:
- Fresh fruit like sliced strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries
- Maple syrup or your favorite fruit syrup
- Add some homemade whipped cream
Expert Tips!
- Pick a hearty bread like Texas Toast that will hold up being dipped in batter.
- It helps to use a serrated knife to slice the bread – that way you won’t squish it while you’re cutting it and you’ll get perfectly shaped sticks.
- Don’t soak the bread in the batter, just enough to get it coated.
- You don’t want to overcrowd the basket of the air fryer when you put the sticks into it because they won’t cook right if you do. The air needs to be able to circulate all around the sticks – that’s how you get that amazing crispy exterior! You may need to cook them in batches depending on how big your air fryer is.
- If you don’t want the cinnamon sugar topping simply skip it for a more traditional french toast taste.
- Store leftovers in fridge for up to three days.
- These are freezer friendly. Place in a single layer on baking pan and place in freezer. Once they are frozen place them in a freezer bag for up to two months.
- To reheat sticks from the refrigerator or freezer you can do it your air fryer, but you can also do it in your oven or microwave.
We love these with some scrambled eggs on the side and sometimes I make orange smoothies, too!
This is such a kid-friendly breakfast because they can eat them with their hands and dip them in syrup for a special treat. You will never make French toast the old-fashioned way once you try this air fryer version. I know your family will love it!

Air Fryer French Toast Sticks
Ingredients
French Toast Sticks
- 8 slices Texas Toast preferably stale
- 4 eggs
- ¾ c. heavy cream
- 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
- 4 Tbsp butter melted
Cinnamon Sugar
- ⅓ c. sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Cut each slice of bread into three sticks, set aside.
- In a large bowl or pie plate whisk together the eggs, heavy cream and vanilla extract.
- Combine the cinnamon sugar mixture on a plate and set aside.
- Lightly coat the basket of air fryer with nonstick cooking spray.
- Roll the sticks in the egg mixture quickly (you don’t want it to soak in), shake off excess and place in the pan. Cook in multiple batches.
- Place French toast sticks in the basket, in a single layer, making sure they do not touch each other. You’ll need to cook them in batches. Set the air fryer to 360° and cook 6 minutes, flip, and cook for an additional 1-3 minutes, watching closely, or until golden brown.
- Place butter in a microwave safe bowl and melt.
- Remove sticks from the basket, dip in butter then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Repeat the process with remaining bread.
- To keep the cooked French Toast Sticks warm while making another batch simply place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and then put them in a warm oven (175 – 200 degrees F). It will keep them warm and crispy until you are done cooking all of the French toast.
- Serve with warm maple syrup, berries and whipped cream if desired.
Tips
- Pick a hearty bread like Texas Toast that will hold up being dipped in batter.
- It helps to use a serrated knife to slice the bread – that way you won’t squish it while you’re cutting it and you’ll get perfectly shaped sticks.
- Don’t soak the bread in the batter, just enough to get it coated.

This is an excellent recipe!! I was wondering what the nutrition information would be per serving, and what would be the serving size?

Wonderful to hear Meredith! Thanks for commenting and rating the recipe!

My children devoured these!
A note on what I did, as we have food allergies: I used Just Egg soy based product instead of egg, oat coffee creamer instead of cream, and vegan butter. It worked wonderfully with these adjustments; I always appreciate a versatile recipe.
Thanks for sharing!
Quick question about reheating from frozen: what air fryer temp and time do you suggest using to reheat from frozen?
Thank you!
Michelle Sperr says
Great idea to adapt the recipe for the food allergies and thank you for sharing your comment. I like to reheat mine in the oven or microwave – my kids can do that on their own too! Thanks!

Love this idea! Just an option, I have been using vanilla coffee creamer instead of milk or heavy cream. ( Not just for french toast but in pancakes or most other desserts that require a liquid. ) It makes them sweet, but not too sweet. I don’t even use syrup. Though cinnamon n sugar is one of my favs so I probaboly won’t skip that on these. 😉

What a great suggestion Bridget! Way to make this recipe work for you!
