Ingredients for this Dill Pickle Pasta Salad Recipe
- Rotini pasta – You can use another type of pasta if you want! Bowtie pasta, elbow macaroni, and penne pasta will all work.
- Bacon bits – Buy some store-bought bacon bits, or cook up your own oven baked bacon and crumble it to use in this pasta salad recipe.
- Dried dill – I like using dried and fresh dill for the best and most bold flavor!
- Cheddar cheese cubes – You can either buy a block of cheese and dice it yourself or buy those pre-made cubes of cheddar cheese. Feel free to use a different type of cheese if you want too. Colby jack cheese would be tasty.
- Fresh dill – Trust me, using some fresh dill along with the dried is the way to make this pasta salad taste the most bold!
- Dill pickles – Dice up some fresh dill pickles to mix into this pasta salad.
- Dill pickle juice – Help bring all the ingredients together, and add a little more flavor, with a bit of dill pickle juice.
- Mayonnaise – I recommend using a high quality brand of mayonnaise so that the flavor is extra perfect.
- Sour cream – To make a creamy dill pickle pasta salad, use some sour cream. Even if you’re not a fan of sour cream, you’ll love it in this recipe! It makes everything so creamy.
- Black pepper – Bring a little depth of flavor to the dish with some black pepper.
- Onion powder – Add a little something extra to this pasta salad with a dash of onion powder.

How to Make Dill Pickle Pasta Salad
Prepare your box of pasta according to instruction on the package. Once cooked to al dente, drain off the water and rinse the pasta with cold water.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the dressing ingredients. Then add the pasta, dill pickles, cheese, fresh dill, bacon bits, and mixed dressing to a large bowl.
Gently stir well until thoroughly combined. Cover the pasta salad with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the flavors to blend.
How to Store Leftover Dill Pickle Pasta Salad
Store pasta salad in an airtight container or the same bowl, tightly covered in plastic wrap. You can refrigerate leftovers for a few days. I do not recommend freezing leftover pasta salad since it has a mayonnaise based dressing. Just store it in the fridge for a few days!
What to Serve with Dill Pickle Pasta Salad
This creamy pickle pasta salad is a perfect side dish for things like burgers and hot dogs. It’d go great with a tuna salad sandwich or reuben sandwich too.
Or serve it up with some baked chicken thighs or pulled pork sandwiches.
It’s also a wonderful side for crock pot BBQ chicken or alongside a pulled pork crescent ring at a potluck.
What Can I add to Dill Pickle Pasta Salad?
There are loads of yummy things you can mix into a pasta salad. Fresh veggies like cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, and diced onions would all be tasty in this easy dill pickle pasta salad. You can mix in extra fresh herbs too!
Is it ok to make pasta salad the day before?
You can, but I don’t recommend making it anymore than 24 hours before you plan to serve it. Macaroni salads tend to dry out the longer that they are stored. The mayo dressing tastes best when the salad is chilled, but store it for too long and the pasta will begin to soak up the dressing.
Pro Tips for the Best Dill Pickle Pasta Salad Recipe
- Make sure you don’t overcook your pasta! Cook just to al dente for the best results. It is also essential to cool the pasta with cold water so that it doesn’t soak up the dressing.
- For the best flavor, chill the completed pasta salad before serving.
- Feel free to add a little extra dill pickles or pickle juice if you’d like the dill pickle flavor even more prominent.
This is one of those recipes you just won’t be able to forget about! I hope you enjoy every single bite!
