This easy Homemade Taco Seasoning recipe has just the right amount of spices and is the perfect way to spice up your recipes. You will never buy taco seasoning from the store again because it’s so inexpensive and easy easy to make, plus you can control what ingredients go into it! This DIY Taco Seasoning takes just minutes to make and all the ingredients are in your pantry!
Taco Seasoning
I love homemade taco seasoning! I was always running out of taco seasoning so I decided it was time to make my own since I had the ingredients right in my pantry. I always double or triple this batch when I make it. This way I have a stash in the cupboard when I need it next. So handy!
I also love the fact that I know what’s going into my taco seasoning. Store bought seasoning is delicious, but it can be loaded with additives. Plus, when you make it yourself you can customize it to your family’s liking. If you are looking for a little more heat, put a little cayenne pepper in it! This recipe is a little bit milder because I have children 😉 If you need it any more mild skip the pepper!
Is it terrible of me to wish my kids to grow up because I want to enjoy spicier foods again? I literally make a batch of plain hamburger and a batch of taco meat when I make tacos because they won’t eat anything with spice!
The funny thing is that my kids LOVE tacos. Tacos without any seasoning it is. It’s one of my go to recipes and it’s pretty much on my menu every week. I like making extra taco meat to put in salads for the rest of the week. I never used to make tacos because my kids had a hard time eating them until I found these awesome Soft Tortilla Taco Boats. They load them up with lettuce, cheese and meat and grab them with their little hands and inhale them.
Happy Mamma here because it’s something they will always eat. I’m guessing you know how hard it is to find recipes you know your kids will eat!
If you make a big batch of it don’t worry about it going bad. It will last up to six months when stored in a cool place in an air tight container. I grab cute spice jars off Amazon to store my homemade spices!
Homemade Taco Seasoning
Wondering what you can make with Homemade Taco Seasoning? So many delicious and easy dishes! It can be a batch of tacos on a busy weeknight. Or maybe Fajitas! When you are making these staple recipes you will love having this handy spice mix on hand in you cupboard.
This taco seasoning recipe will work for ground beef, chicken or turkey. I also like to throw it on my pork loin!
A few of my other favorite recipes to use this inexpensive taco seasoning mix in are Crock Pot Chicken Tacos, Chicken Ranch Enchiladas and Taco Pie.
How to Make Taco Seasoning:
All the spices in this homemade taco seasoning are more than likely in your pantry already so you can make taco seasoning at home!
The largest portion of the homemade taco seasoning is chili powder which adds a southwest flavoring.
Next up is cumin which will add a slightly nutty warm flavor and is very common in Mexican dishes. Onion and garlic powder are the aromatics in this recipe. Add in salt and pepper which are staples in any seasoning mix!
If you need this to be gluten free make sure you grab chili powder that is gluten free.

I am totally doing this. I have never bought taco seasoning in my life, so I just throw a bunch of spices in the hamburger and hope it turns out! It will be so much better to just have your taco spice mix on hand!
