If you love your sweet potatoes creamy on the inside you will want to try these Instant Pot Sweet Potatoes! Silk smooth and so easy to make. They are ready in a fraction of the time and come out just right every single time.

We are big fans of baked sweet potatoes around here, but they can take forever to bake in the oven. That’s great for the weekends, but not so great for weeknight dinners! So, I’ve started cooking them in my Instant Pot and they are ready in no time at all.
Pressure cooking potatoes is a really great way to cook them. It’s a fool-proof method, and they come out perfectly cooked every time. They are so creamy and soft and delicious.
Sweet potatoes have a great flavor, and cooking them this way is so much easier – add all of your favorite toppings, and you get a side dish everyone will love.
You Will Love This Recipe!
- The best thing about this recipe is how quick the potatoes cook in an Instant Pot! It’s so much faster than the oven, and they are just as delicious.
- Sweet potatoes are full of nutrients and are a healthy side dish (just be careful about the toppings!). My kids love that they’re naturally sweet, so it’s really easy to get them to eat one!
- They are a great side dish for weeknight dinners or special holiday dinners – they pair perfectly with roast turkey and baked ham!
Tips for Prepping Sweet Potatoes
For this recipe, you only need two ingredients: whole sweet potatoes and water.
Be sure to prep your potatoes before cooking them by rinsing them under running water and scrubbing the skins to remove any grit or dirt. That’s it!
How to Make Instant Pot Potatoes
Pour the water into the Instant Pot and place the steaming trivet inside. I can cook four sweet potatoes in mine by stacking them on top of each other in two layers.
Secure the lid and close the steam vent. Set it to cook on high pressure for 10 to 15 minutes. The time needed will depend on the size of your potatoes.
Once the timer goes off, all the steam to naturally release for 10 minutes. Carefully open the steam valve to release any remaining pressure.
Remove the lid and take the potatoes out (use tongs – they’ll be hot!). Slice them open down the middle, and they’re ready to serve!
Sweet Potato Toppings
Now for the fun part – all the toppings! Just like regular baked potatoes, the options are pretty much endless, so here are some ideas!
- You can keep it simple and just add some butter, salt, and pepper. Or, get fancy and top them with light and fluffy whipped butter like they do at restaurants!
- You can use the same sort of toppings you might for regular potatoes, like sour cream and shredded cheese, too.
- Add some chopped fresh parsley or chives for some color and fresh flavor.
- For a special treat, make some whipped cinnamon butter (just whip softened butter with a little cinnamon to make it!)
- Crunchy chopped nuts like pecans and walnuts are great, too!
- The kids LOVE some mini marshmallows on theirs – I just put some on top and pop them under the broiler for a few minutes to toast them so their ooey-gooey. It tastes like sweet potato casserole!
These are just a few ideas – there are so many more, so get creative with your baked potato toppings. You can switch them up every time you make them.
Serve Them with These Main Dishes!
Just like regular baked potatoes, these Instant Pot sweet potatoes go with pretty much anything! Here are some main dishes we love to serve with them:
- They are delicious with pork chops! My Air Fryer pork chops, garlic baked chops, and Parmesan-crusted pork chops are all delicious.
- Make a batch of easy fried chicken to go with them! Or my baked chicken legs are great, too.
- They go great with anything barbecue like my chicken drumsticks and barbecue ribs!
These Instant Pot sweet potatoes are such an easy side dish and just another reason to love your Instant Pot. You might not go back to the oven-baked method again once you try it. It’s so fast and easy and you get perfectly cooked sweet potatoes every time.
