Ingredients
- Cold strong brewed coffee – You can brew strong coffee ahead of time and chill it, or make your own cold brew coffee!
- Whole milk – For the most creamy endless java joy, use whole milk.
- Ice – You’ll need plenty of ice cubes to make this drink absolutely perfect!

How to Make a Java Chip Frappuccino
Place cold coffee and milk, ice, chocolate syrup, and chocolate chips in the blender. Blend until smooth.
Drizzle about one tablespoon of chocolate sauce down the inside of each glass.
Pour the drink into the glasses and garnish each drink with whipped cream and chocolate chips.
How do I add the chocolate to the glass?
When you drizzle chocolate into the glasses, add it down the inside side of the glass and turn it to create a swirled pattern. The mocha drizzle gives extra chocolate flavor and a nice presentation for your java chip frappuccino recipe!
The java chip frappe has always been one of my favorites! This recipe is going to be a great money-saver for me.
What are java chips made out of?
They are typically made out of very rich chocolate and heavy fats to ensure a smooth and creamy chocolate. However, regular chocolate chips will work well in this recipe.
Is there caffeine in a java chip frappuccino?
Typically, yes. While a frappuccino does not typically use espresso, there is cold brew or cold coffee mixed into it. However, you can easily make a frappuccino without coffee which would make it caffeine free. You can also use half-caf coffee or decaf.
Variations
Mocha Frappuccino: Skip the chocolate chips and add your desired amount of chocolate sauce to the blender with the other ingredients to make a chocolate coffee drink. I like a few tablespoons. Garnish with whipped cream, shaved dark chocolate, or mini chocolate chips.
Vanilla Java Chip: Make the coffee Frappuccino as instructed, but add a tablespoon or so of vanilla syrup when you blend the ingredients.
Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino: Skip the chocolate syrup and chocolate chips and add some pumpkin spice syrup when you blend the other ingredients. Garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice.
Tips for the Best Copycat Frappuccino
- Use a dark roast coffee for this drink and brew it stronger than you would for a regular cup of coffee. Or you can use your favorite cold brew coffee.
- Use very cold coffee and milk for the best cold and frothy Frappuccino. The colder, the better! I like to put them in the freezer while measuring the other ingredients, so they are very chilled.
- When you blend the drink, stop to stir it a few times. This will ensure the chocolate chips are blended into the drink and not at the bottom when you serve it.
Are you ready to sip on this homemade Starbucks Frappuccino? You’ll love how much you’ll save, and you’ll LOVE how good it tastes! This Java Chip Frappuccino is one of my favorites – I hope you try it soon.

Java Chip Frappuccino
Ingredients
- 1 cup strong coffee made ahead of time and very cold
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cups ice
- ½ cup chocolate syrup
- ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional garnish is whipped cream and mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Make sure that the coffee is well chilled, or it will just melt the ice and the drink will not thicken up. I like to put the coffee and milk into the freezer while I am measuring and assembling the other ingredients.
- Place chilled coffee, milk, ice, chocolate syrup and chocolate chips into the blender.
- Blend until smooth. (The chocolate chips can be sneaky – stir it up once or twice to make sure they are blending.)
- Drizzle about 1 Tablespoon of the chocolate sauce onto the inside of each of your 2 serving glasses.
- Pour the drink into serving glasses and garnish as desired.

Excellent Recipe! Out of curiosity, Is there a kid-friendly way to make this drink? I’m sure they want to participate into making this just as much as the grown-ups here.
Sarah Hill says
You could possibly just omit the coffee for them! I know there’s some coffee alternatives out there for children without caffeine as well if you’re just looking for the taste!

Fab recipe- I would reduce the amount of Chocolate Syrup and Coffee (let’s not die of coffee overdose!) and remove the Chocolate Chips. I consider this a great recipe.
