Ingredients For Lobster Macaroni And Cheese
- Lobster meat – Since we live in the midwest, we tend to buy frozen, cooked lobster but you can buy or cook from fresh if it is accessible to you. Chop the lobster into bite size pieces before adding to the macaroni. You can also substitute cooked shrimp, crab or scallops in this dish.
- Elbow macaroni – Of course you can use any short pasta like cavatappi or shells if that’s what you’ve got available to you.
- Salted butter – This will add to the overall richness of the dish as well as add some silkiness to the noodles.
- Flour – Use flour to thicken the sauce by making a roux.
- Seasonings – Onion powder, garlic powder, dry mustard powder, salt and ground black pepper will enhance the flavors in your mac and cheese.
- Half and half – Half and half has a great fat content for mac and cheese. It isn’t as heavy as whipping cream but it still gets nice and creamy.
- Milk – Use whole milk for the creamiest result.
- Shredded cheese – For the best flavor, shred sharp cheddar cheese, mozzarella and parmesan. Shredding the cheese yourself will get a really ooey-gooey mac and cheese. Elevate the flavor and add some Gruyère to this dish.
Topping
- Italian style breadcrumbs – Italian style are typically seasoned with a blend of dried herbs like oregano, basil, parsley and marjoram. This will enhance the flavor of the topping.
- Melted butter – Keeps everything together and helps the topping to brown nicely.
- Parmesan cheese – Of course we’ve got to add cheese to the topping to add more mouthwatering flavor.
- Parsley – Use chopped fresh parsley or dried parsley, whichever is more accessible to you.
How To Make Lobster Macaroni And Cheese
Combine topping ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
Cook pasta to al dente according to package directions. Drain and run under cold water and set aside.
Melt butter over medium heat in a saucepan. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, dried mustard, salt, and pepper. Add in flour and whisk to combine.
Slowly add half and half, then milk while whisking to combine. The mixture will be very thick at first but will smooth out as you continue adding liquid.
Once all of the liquid is added, bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 to 2 minutes or until thickened while whisking constantly.

Combine the sauce and the pasta. Gently stir in half of the cooked lobster meat.
Pour the macaroni mixture into the prepared casserole dish and spread out evenly.
Add remaining lobster meat on top and then sprinkle with the bread crumb topping.
Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until bubbly and topping is golden brown.

Pro Tips
- Be sure to cook macaroni only to al dente because it will cook in the oven as well and you don’t want soggy noodles!
- You can broil this dish for a few minutes at the end of cooking to really brown that topping. Just keep a close eye so it doesn’t burn.
Storage And Reheating
Fridge: Store leftover lobster mac and cheese in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Freezer: I don’t recommend freezing this dish because the milk and cheese sauce will not keep a nice consistency after thawing and reheating.
Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10-15 minutes, or until hot throughout. Keep an eye on the casserole and cover if the topping is getting too dark. You can also reheat, covered, in the microwave.
Rich and comforting, this lobster mac and cheese is an indulgent restaurant-quality dish your family will be asking for often! It’s an easy dish to put together, so add it to your meal plan this week.
