Why this Recipe Works!
- Uses crescent rolls for a crust – hello? Easy and pure deliciousness with that signature flaky crust!
- It’s cheesy, meaty and amazing!
- It’s quick to make – perfect weeknight meal!
- Tastes like a taco but only better because you’re not assembling all those tacos and the kids can eat it easier!
Ingredients Needed
- Hamburger – We use a 80/20 ground beef, just make sure to drain off the grease after browning.
- Crescent rolls – Grab the store bought kind and make it easy!
- Taco seasoning – Use a packet from the store or make your own.
- Sour cream
- Cheddar Cheese – Grab the block of cheese and great it yourself for the best “meltability”!
- Crushed chips – We prefer Nacho Cheese Doritos, but Fritos or any corn chip would work.
- Optional garnish, sliced green onions
Steps To Prepare
- Prep –
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the pie dish and set aside.
- Brown Hamburger – In a skillet over medium heat brown hamburger and drain off grease. Add taco seasoning, water and simmer until water is gone.
- Assemble Pie – Place the crescent rolls in the pie pan with the narrow tip pointed towards the middle. Flatten to cover the bottom. On top of the crescent rolls add the hamburger mixture. The layer with sour cream, cheese and crushed chips.
- Bake – Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and serve immediately. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired.
More Topping Ideas!
Here’s a few more optional ingredients you could toss into this recipe to give it other flavors.
- Add chopped onions to the ground beef when you are browning it.
- Add a layer of refried beans.
- Sprinkle lettuce and tomatoes on the top after it cooks.
Tips for Leftovers!
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
To reheat the pie return it to an oven preheat to 350 degrees. Make sure it’s in an oven proof pan. Heat for 20-30 minutes or until it is hot and bubbly! Microwaving the pie will make the crust soggy.

I love to read and try new recipes. You have some of the most interesting recipes I’ve ever read or tried. You use ordinary pantry items. But make the recipe delicious and challenging to cook. You’ve never published one that was not a success. Thanks

This sounds delicious, Julie, however, I have a son who is a #1 diabetic and the carbs in this pie are terrible for him. The bad part is that he used to eat all this until they removed his pancreas. So now he still wants it. If you can think of something very similar but without so many carbs we’ll all be happy. Thank you for all your delicious recipes!!! Just a side note that Mr. Tortilla has some with 1 carb.

Please, fix the “print” button so the 2nd sheet with the nutrition doesn’t print. Let it be an option, please???
I get two pages, one with the recipe, followed by a separate page with only nutrition printed on it. I do NOT want one page of nutrition…. LOVE the recipe, very well received here from whole family.
Julie Evink says
When you print you can simply select print 1 page. Some people want the nutrition facts. Not real hard to do that!

Yes! You hooked me! I have got to try this pie! (And I love that you can use crescent rolls and don’t have to make an actual pie crust!)
