Ingredients for Crostini
- French baguette – You can use a different type of bread if you can’t find a baguette. Sourdough works great — it needs to be some type of crusty bread. But for the classic crostini shape, slice up a baguette!
- Olive oil – Brush each bread piece with olive oil to make them perfectly crispy once baked. They turn into the best little toasts.
- Salt – A little bit of salt on each piece will help bring out the flavor of whatever you serve with the crostini.
Helpful Tools
How to Make Crostini
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit before you begin prepping the crostini.
- Then slice the French baguette on the diagonal into about ½” thick slices. Lay the slices in a single layer on 1-2 sheet pans, ensuring there is space between each slice.
- Brush both sides of each piece of bread with olive oil, then bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Sprinkle with sea salt.
- Serve with your favorite appetizers or top with something tasty and enjoy!
How to Store Leftover Crostini
Allow to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container or plastic zip top bag. Store with a paper towel to help soak up any excess moisture and keep the crostini crispy.
Store at room temperature for up to a week. Alternatively, you can freeze your crostini for about a month!
How do you reheat crostini?
Preheat your oven or toaster oven to about 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then bake for 5 minutes, or until the toast crisps back up again and is warm. Be careful not to over-bake when reheating. Keep a close eye on the crostini while they are in the oven.
What to serve with costini?
There is an endless amount of delicious options to serve with these crispy little toast pieces. The most popular is bruschetta, a combination of tomatoes, basil and garlic, but the ideas definitely don’t end there. You can use fun spreads and other toppings, or serve these with your favorite dips:
Spreads: Things like jam, cream cheese, creamy goat cheese, ricotta cheese, and pesto are all tasty.
Proteins: Fig and prosciutto, tuna salad, and chicken salad would be great as a topping on crostini.
Vegetables: Aside from bruschetta, veggies like sautèed mushrooms, avocado, and roasted veggies would be great.
Fruit: I love to serve this with a fruit spread. But it’s also great with caramelized apples, sliced pears with cheese, and berries with honey.
Dips: You can also serve these with dips like spinach artichoke dip, hummus, buffalo chicken dip, and BLT dip are among some of my favorites.
Aside from all of these, you can also pair crostini with a big ol’ chef salad or a hearty bowl of a comforting soup, like white bean soup!
Is crostini supposed to be hard?
Crostini is supposed to be crispy, not hard. The extra-virgin olive oil brushed on the outside will help to toast the outside of the crostini, making it crisp, while the inside should still be tender. If your crostini is really hard and difficult to bite into then you may have sliced the slices to thick or over-baked the crostini.
Pro Tips for the Best Crostini Recipe
- Be sure to slice your bread into slices of even thickness. This way, they’ll all finish baking at the same time and you won’t have some that are underdone and some that are overdone.
- Feel free to add other seasonings to your crostini! Fresh and dried herbs would be super tasty.
- Save on your prep time for a party and make crostini ahead of time. Then store until needed and then pop into the oven to reheat.
This is the best crostini recipe because it SO easy! Top these little toasts with any of your favorite toppings or dunk them into your favorite dips.
