Quick and easy meatless layered taco dip that is ready in 5 minutes! This dip is packed with flavor and the perfect appetizer for a party or game day party. It starts with a layer of creamy taco seasoned cream cheese and is topped with salsa and shredded cheese. Grab you chips and get to dipping!
I can never get enough dip recipes in my life. They are so good, easy and always a crowd please. Another one of my favorite dip recipes is this Easy Taco Dip, but my husband is not a fan of lettuce, tomatoes and black olives so I came up with this version.
Layered Taco Dip still gives me that delicious cream cheese base and a little zip with the salsa but it’s a little more his style so he loves it too! Sometimes it’s about compromises isn’t it?
Plus, it’s even quicker than that Easy Taco Dip recipe I mentioned above. You don’t have to dice anything. You pretty much dump, mix and spread. That’s my kind of style! You could also add a layer of hamburger with or without taco seasoning to this dip to zip it up a little more!
Only 5 Ingredients!
- Cream Cheese
- Taco Seasoning
- Mayonnaise
- Salsa
- Colby Jack Cheese
Layers for Dip!
This dip is made up of three quick and easy layers. A layer of taco seasoned cream cheese, salsa and cheddar cheese!
Layer 1 – The first layer is your cream cheese layer. Grab your hand mixer. You will want to use this to get the cream cheese layer nice and fluffy so it does become firm in the fridge and hard to scoop with your chips! Mix up your cream cheese and taco seasoning in a mixing bowl then add your mayonnaise and mix until combined. Spread it in a glass pie plate or square baking pan. Anything will work!
Layer 2 – Spread salsa evenly over the cream cheese layer.
Layer 3 – Final step is to finish with shredded cheese. You can add green onions to the top to garnish if you want!
Make Ahead Friendly
The best part about this is you are hosting a party you can make this ahead of time for less stress.
I would recommend making it the night before and popping it in the fridge until ready to serve. Remember to beat the cream cheese layer with a hand mixer so it doesn’t become hard when refrigerated, making it hard to dip into. No one wants broken chips!
In fact we recommend chilling at least an hour so the flavor can blend together.
Recommended Dippers
I always serve this delicious Layered Taco Dip with chips, but you could serve it with pita bread, crackers or even some fresh vegetables!
Layer Substitutions
The best part is that this taco dip is that the layers can be changed depending on what you are craving.
Here are a few ideas to inspire you!
- Avocado – Diced, sliced or mashed aka guacamole! Layer these in the middle so they don’t discolor.
- Taco Meat – Make up some homemade taco meat and layer it in there!
- Chicken – Grill or saute diced chicken to add to this.
- Corn – Make sure this is cooked before you add it in there.
- Onions – Dice up some onions and throw it on there.
- Jalapenos – Take the seeds and membranes out if you don’t want it hot.
- Lettuce – Add a layer of shredded lettuce, but if you are making it ahead of time beware it may wilt or turn a bit brown on the edges.
- Tomatoes – Seed and dice tomatoes to add some more vegetables in.
- Refried Beans – Mix with a beat of milk and blend so it’s a creamy consistency and easy to scoop.
This Easy Taco Dip recipe is perfect for tailgating, summer parties and potlucks! Make it ahead of time and pop it into the fridge until you are ready to serve it or bring it along. It’s totally portable and so easy, plus it’s usually the first appetizer to disappear at all the parties I attend!

This is a great recipe. I use lite Sour Cream instead of the Mayo. This is what my family perfers.
