Pressure Cooker Swedish Meatballs
Our family LOVES Swedish Meatballs and I typically make them in my Crock Pot, but I decided it was time to convert that recipe to my favorite pressure cooker so I could make them quickly when I didn’t plan ahead!
Like that ever happens, right?!
My mom passed this original recipe down to me and it’s become one of our favorite meals. One of my kids likes the meatballs, one kid likes the noodles and one kid isn’t picky. I love it when a meal has everything to please everyone.
I just throw some peas or a side salad with the Swedish Meatballs and it’s a quick and easy meal and I usually have everything on hand. I always try to keep a bag of frozen meatballs in the freezer for crazy nights when I just don’t know what else to make.
What is special about Swedish meatballs?
THAT is a great question! IKEA is an affordable furniture, kitchen appliance store. Almost every college kid’s dorm is outfitted from IKEA. They carry everything from desks to glassware and oh by the way… a cafeteria where they are famous for their … Swedish Meatballs!
If you have never ate at IKEA, do that next time you visit! It’s affordable and delicious!

Uhm what happens if you forget and mix the sour cream in with everything before setting it to pressure ?
Julie says
I hope it turned out okay! I don’t think adding the sour cream in early would be too disastrous for this one.
Karrie says
I tend to get the burn notice when I cook with pasta. If I wanted to cook the pasta in the stove, how would I adjust the recipe?
Julie says
It would be tough to convert this recipe for the oven as the extra liquid is for the instant pot. If you do give it a shot, I would reduce the water. Also, omit the noodles and cook the meatballs in the oven and then serve over the egg noodles. Here is the recipe for a slow cooker option – https://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/swedish-meatballs/

I never stir in my pasta as it seems to stick to the bottom when I do. I later meat on bottom and pasta on top of that and it turns out fine! 🙂
Julie says
That’s a great tip! Thanks Michelle!
Jess Murray says
Allergic to mushrooms. Can I use a different soup?
Julie Evink says
Yes! You can use a cream of chicken or any cream of anything soup would work.
kris says
Good stuff. I forgot I did not have brown gravy packet. Used a package litpon onion soup mix dry instead.
Julie Evink says
Great substitution!

I made this recipe exactly as described and it did not come out well at all. I make things in my instant pot almost daily. Before the pot even got to pressure the burn indicator came on. Everything was burnt to the bottom. Definitely suggest adding quite a bit more liquid.
Frances Gorecki says
Wow. That’s the opposite from what happened to me. Mine was floating in the gravy. Wonder why the big difference.
Vicky says
I made the recipe tonight and had the same issue with burnt warning. I have the non stick pot and very glad for it. Still tasted yummy, will add more water and or beef broth
Mindi says
I had the same issue. Burn indicator came on twice, and I followed the recipe exactly. By any chance are you at high elevation? (I am, and was wondering if that could make a difference.) Overall flavor was good, but it needed almost double the amount of noodles in order to come out looking like the photos.
Frances Gorecki says
Forgot to mention, it is the first thing I made in my Instant Pot. Also, it was delicious and hubby said I could make it again.
Frances Gorecki says
When we had the leftovers, the amount of gravy was just right. I guess the pasta soaked it all up. Anyway, thanks for the recipe. It is yummy.
Mimi says
This was really good. I halved the recipe but used two cups of noodles instead of 1.5. There was definitely some soupiness after 8 minutes but I stirred in the sour cream and covered the pot and kept it on warm for 5 min more and it thickened a bit. I used low sodium soups and broth but I will have to go no salt broth in the future to combat the amount of sodium, I don’t think it will affect the taste but it WILL help my blood pressure. Ha! Overall, really delicious meal for this IP newbie.
Julie says
Glad you enjoyed it!
Frances Gorecki says
Made as directed. It was very juicy, unlike your picture. Maybe I needed the wider egg noodles to absorb more of the liquid. Either that or I need to run it another minute and put in more noodles.
Claire says
You mention beef broth in the top ingredients, but then later water. Which do you prefer?
Julie Evink says
It actually calls for both beef broth and water. You will need both to have enough liquid for the pressure in the Instant Pot.
Sherry says
I made this recipe and it was very good and today my mom asked me to make it again elderly approved lol
Julie Evink says
So glad you enjoyed it and so did your Mom!
Shannon says
What is the green garnish in the picture
Julie Evink says
It’s fresh parsley.
Michelle says
Do I need to use 2 cans of soup? Can I substitute with something else?
Julie Evink says
Sorry I haven’t tested it with any other ingredients other than the ones listed!
Lynn says
according to trusty google, 3 cups of dry noodles comes to about 5 or 6 oz on the kitchen scale. (flat, twisty dry noodles are kinda hard to measure using a cup). Only 5 or 6 oz??? I realize pasta expands when you cook it. But this sure doesn’t seem like much in comparison to the rest of the ingredients. I will walk in faith 🙂 .
Jeff Garvin says
Made this last night and it was really good
Much appreciated
Thank you
Julie Evink says
So glad you enjoyed it!
Sharon says
I love the recipe – thanks! But I wish every recipe posted to the internet had a huge jump to recipe button at the top. So frustrating having to scroll half a page to get to the recipe.
Jen says
If I want to cook the noodles separately, how should I alter the recipe?
