It’s seriously such a fun recipe that is family friendly and totally delicious. You’re going to love it!
Why You’ll Love Taco Pizza
- Add any and all of your favorite toppings and customize your pizza exactly how you want. Those pizza delivery apps aren’t the only way you can get your pizza just how you like it!
- Make easy taco pizza in just about a half hour. That’s just as long, or maybe even less time, than it takes to order pizza and wait on delivery.
- The flavor of this pizza is out of this world. Far better than store-bought frozen and, dare I say, even better than your favorite pizza place!
Ingredients for Taco Pizza
- Pizza dough – While I highly recommend homemade pizza dough, I’m also realistic in knowing that not everyone will have that on hand. Store-bought pizza dough will work just fine!
- Cream cheese – Allow it to come to room temperature so that it’s soft enough to mix together.
- Sour cream – Even if you’re not a fan of sour cream, you’ve gotta give it a try in this recipe! It makes the most creamy “pizza sauce” that is just perfect for taco pizza.
- Salsa – Flavor your pizza sauce with a bit of your favorite salsa.
- Ground beef – For the best results, use a lean ground beef so that it’s not too greasy. You can even use ground turkey or ground chicken if you want a more lean meat.
- Taco seasoning – A store-bought taco seasoning packet will work, but homemade taco seasoning is the most flavorful.
- Mexican cheese blend – Make your pizza perfectly cheesy with a Mexican cheese blend. Feel free to use any other cheese you prefer.
- Crushed nacho cheese chips – This is optional, but I think it may just be my favorite topping on this pizza!
- Additional toppings: You can use anything you want, but this is what we chose
- Sliced green onions
- Diced tomatoes
- Sliced olives
- Taco sauce
- Shredded lettuce

How to Make a Taco Pizza
If your pizza dough has been in the fridge, allow it to rest at room temp for about 20 minutes.
While the dough rests, brown the ground beef in a large skillet and then drain off the grease. Add the taco seasoning, a bit of water and cook for a few more minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and then press or roll out the dough onto a pizza pan, pizza stone or baking sheet.
Bake the dough for 8 minutes in a preheated oven. While it bakes, mix the cream cheese, sour cream and salsa in a bowl until smooth.
Then spread the mixture onto the baked pizza crust and then sprinkle the ground beef over the top. Add the cheese and then bake for 5-7 more minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted.
Remove from the oven and top with crushed chips and any other desired toppings. Slice and serve!
How to Store Taco Pizza
For best results, store taco pizza without the extra toppings. However, you can still store leftovers that have the toppings. Just keep in mind that the chips may get soggy and the diced tomatoes could get watery.
How to Reheat Leftover Pizza
To reheat, pop a slice or two in the oven or toaster oven until heated through.
What other toppings can I add to Mexican pizza?
Just as there are endless toppings for tacos, there are endless toppings for this Mexican pizza recipe! Here’s some delicious ideas:
- fresh cilantro
- hot sauce
- salsa
- diced avocado
- Mexican street corn dip
- roasted garlic cloves
- refried beans
- diced bell peppers
- sliced jalapeño
- pico de gallo
What to Serve with Taco Pizza
Anytime the word “taco” is in the title of what’s being served for dinner, chips and salsa will surely follow. And if it’s not salsa, then it’s either guacamole or queso with some crunchy tortilla chips.
You don’t have to serve anything with taco pizza, but there are some tasty ideas! Cheesy garlic bread or mozzarella sticks would be a fun side. Some Spanish rice and charro beans would be tasty too!
Pro Tips for the Best Taco Pizza Recipe
- If you are using a 12-inch pan you might not need all of the pizza sauce mixture. If you’re using a larger pizza pan or a 9×13 pan you will use all of it.
- Always baked the pizza dough first and then add toppings! Since the beef is fully cooked, the second bake is really just to melt the cheese and make the crust golden brown.
- Don’t overload your pizza with too many toppings. Remember, you can always make multiple pizzas with different flavor combinations! I’m not judging!
This easy taco pizza is a dinner time favorite! It’s a food fusion that you didn’t know you needed!

Elaine says
I love taco pizza! Especially the mixture of textures with the crust and all the toppings. I loved the sauce for this too, I’ve never had a cream cheese/salsa sauce on a pizza, but I definitely will again!
