Expert Tips for Baked Spaghetti Pie
- Can it be made ahead of time? Absolutely! Prepare the recipe but hold off on baking it until dinnertime. When you want to make it follow the baking directions. You will need to add about 10-15 minutes of baking time on due to the fact it will be cold when you start. We recommend taking the pie out of the refrigerator while preheating the oven especially if you are using a glass pie dish.
- Freezer Directions: Skip the mozzarella topping and simply cover with foil and then place in a large, plastic baggie and place in the freezer. Freeze in a disposable foil pan for even easier clean up. It can go straight from freezer to oven. You will need to add an additional 30-45 minutes of baking time on because it is frozen when starting. Add Mozzarella after the first baking time like stated in original directions.
- Leftovers: Store in airtight container for 3-4 days. They can be microwaved to reheat. They can also be frozen in single serving portions. We recommend letting them thaw in refrigerator overnight and reheating in microwave the next day for lunch.
- Cool: It is very important to let the spaghetti pie sit for at least 5-10 minutes before cutting into it so it has a chance to set. Otherwise it will not slice into pie wedges and will look more like a casserole.

Grated parmesan cheese.

Love, love, love this recipe. I have made it for 30 plus years. My kids still ask for it when they come for dinner. I love using ground turkey or chicken and add a few more ingredients to filling and tomatoes. I use onion and green peppers in the ground meat and then flavour my tomato sauce with oregano and garlic powder. A little sugar to cut some of the acid makes the filling just right. Super recipe. I also double some of the ingredients to make one to freeze or share and one to enjoy!!
