Crock Pot Hot Ham and Cheese
These delicious Crock Pot Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwiches are so easy and delicious! The ham is smothered in a homemade cheese sauce and slow cooked in your slow cooker for a few hours. Simply pile it on a bun and you have an easy meal!
With the house project going on I’m always looking for super simple ideas to provide a lunch on Saturday while we have people out there helping us. My lovely sis-in-law served this last summer at the lake and I knew it was going to come in handy sometime. This was the time!

The BEST Hot Ham Cheese Sandwiches!
You just buy pre-cut ham or take a ham to your deli and have them cut it for you. Obviously whichever is cheaper is the way to go in my book! Then mix up the cheese sauce, throw it in the crock-pot and you are ready to rock in roll. Love these kinds of “meals” don’t you? I almost feel guilty serving them!
It seems if they taste delicious no one really asks if they were hard to make. I often times find out people think I make five course meals all the time because I’m a food blogger. You guys, not happening. I feed my family leftovers and super simple meals the majority of the time.
That’s why you see those recipes here. Rarely, if ever do you see something that has 29 ingredients and 68 steps to it. I don’t have time for that and I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you don’t either!
You are here because you need simple recipes that will have people fooled about how much time they took just like these delicious Crock Pot Hot Ham Cheese Sandwiches!
Ingredients Needed to Make Crock Pot Hot Ham and Cheese

- Velveeta
- Evaporated milk
- Flour

How to Make Crock Pot Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwiches
You are going to love how easy this crock pot recipe is!
Grab a sauce pan and melt the butter, Velveeta and evaporated milk. Stir until it is mixed.
Add the flour and whisk until combined and smooth.
Next, grab your crock pot and layer your ham into the crock pot. I usually make about 3 layers and pour a 1/3 of the cheese mixture on top of each layer of ham, ending with the cheese sauce on top.
Then heat your crock pot on low for about 3-4 hours or until hot and bubbly.
Each crock pot heats differently so be aware of that!

I made the cheese sauce as more of a traditional roux. Same ingredients and same amount. But I first melted the butter, then added the flour and whisked for about 2 minutes. Next I whisked in the evaporated milk, slowly adding the milk so it wouldn’t get lumpy. Then finally added the cubed Velveeta and cooked and whisked until smooth. Maybe it’s just me, but doing the cheese sauce as instructed in the recipe gave me a somewhat grainy texture. And I think adding the flour to the melted butter, then allowing it to cook before adding the milk and cheese is what solved this issue for me.

I’m glad you were able to find a solution that worked best for you! Thanks for your feedback on the recipe!
Terri Freedman says
I made these before for a game day occasion and they were a big hit served with Cole slaw and potato salad and chips
Julie Evink says
So glad you enjoyed these Terri!
Kayley says
Can chipped ham be used?
Julie Evink says
I’m sorry I’ve never tried that! I would think it would work just fine!
Terri Freedman says
Would like this recipe in a lot fewer servings but I guess I could make half. Would that still work in a crockpot?
Courtney says
If you go to the recipe card you can adjust the amount of servings and it will automatically change the amount of ingredients for you.
Julie B says
Can I use Cornstarch instead of flour to make the ham and cheese gluten free?
Courtney says
I would think so! You will have to adjust the amounts. I have not tried making it with corn starch.
Shelly says
Can I prepare this the night before, put it in the fridge overnight and then just turn on the crockpot the next day for 3 hours?
Courtney says
Yes!
Molly says
Instead of the half a cup of butter, can I add a little bit more Velveeta cheese?
Courtney says
The butter helps the cheese melt.
Alayna says
What size crockpot does this fit in?
Tracy says
Will doubling the recipe still fit in the crock pot?
Courtney says
It may not leave much room for stirring.
Sue says
Hi Julie. Where’s the rest of the recipe? I have steps 1-3 and am interested in making the ham & cheese sliders.
Julie Evink says
This is just a recipe for the ham and cheese filling for sandwiches so after 1-3 you put it on buns. If you are looking for a slider recipe here is that link – https://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/ham-and-cheese-sliders/
Emily says
How many does it serve roughly?
Julie Evink says
I would say 18-24 sandwiches.
Kathy says
I will be making shortly for football game
Julie Evink says
Hope you enjoy them!
Jeffro says
They are delicious for sure.
Around here we call them White Trash Sliders. LOL
Julie Evink says
Ha! I’ve never heard that!
Lynn says
Can you use 2% milk instead of evaporated milk? Thank You
Julie says
Milk will really thin out your cheese mixture. You could use half and half instead but I wouldn’t go with anything lighter.
