Ingredients for Chicken and Noodles
- Frozen peas – I recommend using frozen peas instead of canned peas. They will hold their texture much better than canned.
- Diced onion – Dice up a yellow onion or white onion to add loads of flavor to this classic dish.
- Butter – Both salted and unsalted butter will work in this recipe.
- Salt and pepper – Season your chicken and noodles simply with just salt and pepper.
- Cream of chicken soup – Make this dish extra creamy with a can of cream of chicken soup. The secret ingredient to making this a super easy dinner.
- Shredded chicken – You can use leftover chicken, or use my recipe for Instant Pot chicken or crockpot chicken to easily make shredded chicken.
- Chicken broth – To lower the salt content of this dish, use low sodium chicken broth.
- Minced garlic – Freshly minced garlic is a game changer when it comes to adding flavor to a meal!
- Heavy whipping cream – Make the most creamy sauce for chicken and noodles with heavy whipping cream.
- Extra wide egg noodles – Feel free to change up the pasta and use your favorite kind, or whatever you have on hand. This recipe will work with most any pasta.

In a large dutch oven or large pot, sauté the diced onion in melted butter for 4-5 minutes. Then stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant.
Add chicken broth, heavy cream and the cream of chicken soup to the pot. Stir the ingredients together until combined and bump up to high heat.
Bring the sauce mixture to a boil and then add the egg noodles. Stir to combine and turn the heat down to medium. You’ll want to bring it to a rapid simmer, not a boil.

When there are two minutes of cook time left, add the frozen peas, shredded chicken, salt and pepper and stir well.
Let the chicken and noodles dish warm through and then serve immediately!
How to Store Leftover Chicken and Noodles
Transfer leftover creamy chicken and noodles to an airtight storage container and store in the fridge for 3-4 days. However, keep in mind that the longer you store this dish the more liquid the noodles will soak. So when you reheat it, there may not be much sauce left. I do not recommend freezing this dish since it has a cream based sauce.
How to Reheat Chicken and Noodles
Place leftovers into a pot and reheat on the stovetop. For best results, add a splash or two of heavy cream to help reconstitute the sauce. You can reheat leftovers in the microwave as well, it just may not keep the same texture.
What to Serve with Chicken and Noodles
Easy chicken and noodles is great on it’s own, but with sides like air fryer garlic bread or cheesy garlic bread it’s extra yum. Roasted vegetables would go well with this dish too. Some green beans with bacon or glazed carrots would also be super tasty.
How do you upgrade chicken and noodles?
There are so many delicious add-ins that you can add to this chicken and noodles recipe. Most importantly, you can add lots of extra vegetables. Carrots, celery, and broccoli would all be yummy in this dish. You can also boost the flavor with things like garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper and parsley flakes.
Don’t be afraid to make this dish your own! It’s one of those basic recipes that is perfect for adapting and changing.
Are chicken and noodles healthy?
While cream of chicken soup isn’t necessarily the healthiest, this dish isn’t too bad. The protein from the chicken and nutritional benefits of the other ingredients makes it a good one dish meal. If you add extra vegetables, you can get more health benefits added in!
Pro Tips for the Best Chicken and Noodles Recipe
