Ingredients for Green Bean Corn Casserole
- Green beans – You can use canned green beans, frozen green beans and even fresh green beans in this recipe. I recommend French-cut green beans for the tastiest results!
- Corn – Use canned corn or frozen corn in this recipe! You don’t have to thaw the corn first — just add it to the sauce.
- Cream of celery soup – Make the most creamy sauce every with a can of cream of celery soup. You can also use cream of chicken or cream of mushroom.
- Shredded cheddar cheese – There are other kinds of cheese that work well in this recipe. Use some Monterey jack, Colby jack or another type of cheese!
- Onions – Dice up a yellow or white onion to add so much flavor to this corn green bean casserole.
- Cheese crackers – Make the best crunchy topping with cheese cracker crumbs instead of bread crumbs!
- Sour cream – To make this dish extra creamy, use sour cream along with your cream of celery soup.
How to Make Green Bean Corn Casserole
Once you have your ingredients ready, it takes no time at all to assemble the casserole
Combine the soup, sour cream, cheese, and diced onion in a large mixing bowl. Add the green beans, corn, and stir to combine, then pour the mixture into a 2-quart baking dish coated with cooking spray.
Cover the baking dish and bake the casserole for 25 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Uncover it and sprinkle the crushed crackers around the edge of the casserole, leaving the middle exposed.
Spritz the crackers with some butter spray. Bake your green bean corn casserole for 15 more minutes, or until it’s hot and bubbly!
Serve and enjoy!
How to Make this Casserole Ahead of Time
This is a straightforward side dish, but to make life even easier for holiday dinners, you can assemble a day in advance and keep it in the refrigerator.
If you do, don’t add the crackers until you are ready to bake it. That way, they will stay nice a crunchy! I usually crush them ahead of time and keep them in a resealable bag. That way, when it’s time to pop the casserole in the oven, I sprinkle them over the top and bake it.
If you bake the casserole straight from the fridge, you may need to add a few minutes to the baking time. It’s ready when it’s hot and bubbly!
How to Store Leftover Green Bean Casserole
Have leftovers? Transfer them to an airtight container or wrap the casserole dish tightly in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Store in the fridge for 2-3 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dish — the texture will just be kind of funny if you reheat it from frozen!
Keep in mind that the cheese cracker topping may not crisp up as well after being stored and reheated.
Pro Tips for the Best Green Bean Corn Casserole
- I do not recommend adding any salt to this recipe. Cream of celery tends to be pretty high in sodium already, so it will add plenty of that salty flavor to the dish.
- You do not need to blanch fresh green beans for this recipe, but you can if you prefer! Just make sure you drain and dry them well afterwards.
- Feel free to add more seasonings and flavors to this dish! Onion powder and garlic powder would be tasty, red pepper would add a little kick!

We loved the green bean corn casserole. The only thing I would change out is use fresh green beans and fresh corn. Personally, I am not a fan of canned vegetables. You could add that in your tips and have instructions on how to cook them before adding to the sauce. This is an excellent casserole.

My husband’s grandmother used to make this every year for the holidays. She used white shoepeg corn. It’s a great recipe!
