Having an iced cocktail is always refreshing during the 4th of July. It’s almost ALWAYS hot, and we want to enjoy the day instead of sweating profusely. I mean, let’s be honest…we’re all just trying to make it to the fireworks show in the evening!
So, we make cocktails and delicious food and have a blast of a time. Whiskey lemonade is another favorite to make on a hot summer day too. Sometimes I’ll make it along with these red, white, and blue vodka cocktails so that people have a choice of drink!
You don’t have to be a bartender to make fun drinks! Just follow this recipe step by step and you will have some pretty drinks made in no time.
Why You’ll Love this Red White and Blue Cocktail
- This fun drink is a great way to keep a patriotic theme throughout all of your food! Serve it at any patriotic holiday, it’s a crowd pleaser.
- You only need 5 minutes to make a yummy red white and blue drink. Even if you’re hosting a lot of people, you can make plenty of cocktails in a short amount of time.
- Since you can’t batch make these cocktails, making them one by one will help you ensure that everyone is drinking responsibly.
Ingredients for Red White and Blue Cocktail
- Lemonade – Make some homemade lemonade, or buy a bottle of lemonade at the grocery store. Either works great, just make sure it isn’t too tart or too syrupy sweet. You’ll want a lemonade that is a good middle ground to balance out the vodka.
- Vodka – I love the brand of Absolut Vodka, but you can use whatever is your favorite. Tito’s and Smirnoff both make a great vodka as well.
- Blue curacao – Blue curacoa is a popular liqueur. I used Mr. Bostons, but use whatever kind you can fine!
- Cherry vodka – There are only a few brands of cherry vodka that are colored red. You’ll want the red kind for this festive cocktail recipe.
- Ice cubes – Can’t have a refreshing cocktail without it being cold! Grab a bag of ice or plenty of ice cubes from your freezer.

- Add the plain vodka and lemonade to a cocktail shaker. Shake for a few minutes, and then slowly pour the mixture over the ice in the previously prepared glass.

Can I store leftovers of this red white and blue cocktail?
I don’t recommend batch making these to where you will have leftovers. Make them one by one and serve immediately. As the ice melts, the cocktail will water down a bit and the layers will begin to meld together. So make the cocktail right before you plan to serve!

Pro Tips!
- Slowly pour every single layer of liquid so that they don’t mix together and the layers are still visible.
- Slice strawberries thinly and garnish the side of the glass with one or two for a fresh fruit garnish that is still patriotic!
- Do not substitute ingredients! It may be tempting, but the different densities of these ingredients is what makes it possible for layers to form.
