Amaretto Sour
This classic recipe for an Amaretto Sour is quick and easy, only taking 5 minutes to make. Make sure to whip up a batch of my simple syrup so you have it when you want a cocktail like this! It’s so easy to make and it will soon be your “go-to” cocktail recipe.
It’s cocktail time! I love to share drink and cocktail recipes because I think it’s really fun to try out new drinks for parties or just our own little happy hours here at home. My favorites are always refreshing drinks like my Paloma or Peach Rosé Sangria but sometimes I forgo the alcohol and sip on a Shirley Temple instead!
So, I have another refreshing cocktail to share today and I think you are going to love these Amaretto Sours! If you’ve never had one, it’s a sweet cocktail made with almond-flavored liqueur that’s mixed with lemon juice and lemon-lime soda.
Amaretto is an Italian liqueur and when you mix it with citrus and simple syrup you get the signature sweet and sour flavor the drink is famous for. I love them year-round, but an Amaretto Sour is especially nice during the summer because it’s such a refreshing cocktail to drink.
This Amaretto Sour cocktail is so easy to make. The recipe I’m sharing is for one drink, but you can also scale it up to make a bigger batch if you’re serving more people.
The drink includes simple syrup which needs to be made before, so I always make a big batch to keep in the refrigerator so it’s super easy to make a drink when I want one.
Ingredients Needed
The main ingredient in an Amaretto Sour is amaretto which is an Italian liqueur. Amaretto tastes like almonds and is used in lots of different cocktails, but the most famous is definitely the Amaretto Sour. The drink is a great combination of sweet and sour with a little bit of fizz from the soda.
Here are the ingredients you need:
- Amaretto liqueur – We recommend either Disaronno or Hiram Walker
- Simple syrup
- Fresh lemon juice
- Lemon-lime soda – Either 7 Up or Sprite
- Orange slice and maraschino cherries for garnish
How to Make Amaretto Sour
I love any excuse to take out the cocktail shaker – what is it about shaking a drink before serving it that’s so fun? All you do is combine the ingredients in a shaker, shake it up, and pour it over ice. Top it with lemon-lime soda, garnish it with orange slices and maraschino cherries and serve.
- Mix Ingredients – Pour the amaretto, simple syrup, and lemon juice into the cocktail shaker.
- Shake – Secure the lid and then give it a few shakes to combine all of the ingredients.
- Serve – Pour the drink into a glass filled with ice. Top the drink with some lemon-lime soda. Drop a couple of maraschino cherries in the drink and garnish the rim with an orange slice.
Large Batch Instructions
You can also make a bigger batch for a party. Just combine the amaretto, lemon juice and simple syrup in a pitcher. Then your guests can pour a glass, add the lemon-lime soda themselves so it’s nice and fizzy, and garnish their drinks.
This cold and refreshing cocktail is definitely one of my favorites. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and I love the combination of the almond flavor from the liqueur with the lemon. It’s a drink that is great for serving at parties because people love it! Or, you can just shake one up for yourself for an easy after-work happy hour cocktail.
Matching the Amaretto Sour with Food!
Now that you have a new favorite cocktail for lazy summer nights or parties with friends, I bet you are wondering what to serve with it! We recommend serving it with salty bar snacks like our favorite Ranch Pretzels or Taco Oyster Crackers. Another great idea is mildly sweet desserts like Tiramisu.

Hi Zachary! The ingredient amounts are found on the recipe card towards the bottom of the post (or you can click the link Jump To Recipe at the top of the page). I also included them here for you:
1½ ounces Amaretto liqueur
1 ounce simple syrup
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
Lemon Lime Soda
1 orange slice
1-2 maraschino cherries
Haven’t tried yet but used to drink these all the time. What kind of lemon lime soda? Like sprite? My friends had a party & made a huge bowl if amaretto sour & added orange sherbet. It was soooooo good!
Yes! Sprite or 7up would work fine. That does sound delicious!
I omitted the lemon juice since I used lemon lime soda, and it was fantastic!
Perfect! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
How do you make a gallon of this
7.5 cups of Amaretto
5 cups of simple syrup
3.5 cups lemon juice
This will give you a gallon of the mixture, then guests can pour their own lemon/lime soda.
Great drink recipe!
