How to Make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole
Begin by greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with non stick cooking spray and then set it to the side.
Then cut the grands biscuits into quarters with clean kitchen shears or a sharp knife. Line the bottom of the pan with the cut biscuits.
Brown the ground breakfast sausage in a large skillet, then drain the grease. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the biscuit pieces.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Then pour the mixture over the sausage and biscuits. Cover with plastic wrap or foil and place in the fridge until morning.
Go ahead and mix up the gravy too! Melt 5 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and then whisk in the flour until it makes a paste. Add salt and pepper and whisk to combine.
Whisk in the milk over a medium high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce to a simmer for 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens. Once done, set it aside to cool and then place it in the fridge until morning.
When you’re ready to bake in the morning, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the casserole from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature while the oven preheats.
Warm the gravy in the microwave or on the stovetop until it is pourable. Then pour it over the egg casserole and cover it with aluminum foil.
Place covered biscuits and gravy casserole in the oven and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and then bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until the casserole is set in the middle and the edges are golden brown.
Serve immediately!
How to Store Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

This is great. I have even changed it up a bit by using Maple Sausage and Honey Grands biscuits. A big hit! I also double the gravy recipe!
Julie says
All great changes, glad you love it!

Can I leave two days in the fridge before I cook? 😬
Or freeze, then cook ?
Having lots of family members stay for a weekend, trying to get food prep done ahead of time.
Would love to know if it could be a freezer meal too for pregnancy/new baby b
Julie says
It’ll be best if it’s just left overnight but yes, I think you could leave it two days. I’m not sure how this would do as a freezer meal, the biscuits might not hold up well.

Delicious!!! Made it exactly like your recipe and was a huge hit!!!
Julie says
Perfect! So glad you loved it!
Beth says
Made this today. I had a little bit of frozen diced potatoes I needed to use up. I sprinkled them around the biscuits before adding sausage. I also had beef broth to use up. Used that instead of milk. Was a huge hit!
Julie says
Perfect! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

I made this for a breakfast potluck at work and it was A HIT!! I did make a few adjustments: I used Brown and serve sausages, which I sliced and fried to be a little crispy. And instead of making the gravy recipe, I bought two packages of county gravy mix (one regular, one peppered; each made two cups of gravy). It was delicious!! I also used 9 or 10 eggs with the same amount of milk. Next time, I think I would only add see of the gravy to start, then add the rest once the eggs are close to being done.

I’m so thankful to find your recipe! I work professionally (not in the culinary world), and we are having an early morning pitch-in breakfast in two weeks. I signed up to bring something “savory.” I’m really hoping this hits the mark and I’m so thankful all it will require is baking that morning. Yay!! I’ll post a review after I’ve made it. ?
Julie Evink says
Hope you love it!

My family and I love this recipe! We have had it multiple times. I have made it as an over night and same morning casserole. only had an issue with it taking forever to cook once and realized I used way too much milk, my fault. It is always a hit when we bring it to family/friend gatherings! I always allow my casserole to sit out of the fridge while preheating the oven so the glass dish will get a little closer to room temp before going into the oven.
Julie Evink says
Great tips! So glad you are enjoying it!
Donnell Fassler says
I made this for s breakfast event-GONE! Several requests for the recipe. So I’m passing it forward!!

Thanks for sharing it Donnell 🙂

Yummy! I used a roll of Dollar store biscuits and made a smaller batch for just the 2 of us.
I cheated and used a pouch of country gravy but will make it from scratch next time. Great recipe!
Julie Evink says
So glad you made it work for you Susan!
Megan says
Does it matter whether the biscuits are the flaky layers or the original kind?
Megan says
I mean, flaky layers or homestyle buttermilk.
Julie Evink says
Either will work be we prefer the flaky layers!
Allie says
Can I make this recipe without leaving it to sit overnight?
Julie Evink says
Yes you can!
Rachael says
Too bad, I’ve made this recipe many times to great success. Sometimes if I don’t let it sit out of the fridge to get closer to room temperature it does take longer in the oven. Ovens can have slightly different temperatures, as well.
Julie Evink says
Great tips! Glad you have enjoyed this recipe!
Heather says
This casserole was awful! It took about twice as long as the recipe said to bake, and it’s just not very good. I’ve tried to make it twice with disastrous results two Christmases in a row. Never again!
