Roy Rogers Drink
Craving a mocktail? Grab a Roy Rogers Drink! A delicious simple combination of cola, grenadine syrup and garnished with a maraschino cherry. This non-alcoholic drink is perfect to serve to kids or anyone that isn’t drinking alcohol at a party!
A Roy Rogers Drink is a great mocktail for parties or anytime you want to dress up a regular soda! It’s a super simple non-alcoholic drink that couldn’t be easier to make.
When we host parties, we try and offer a mocktail option for our guests who don’t drink and for the kids because they like to have their own fancy drink, too! We love to make Shirley Temples and Sparkling Cranberry Mocktails and now we’re all about the Roy Rogers. You only need two ingredients plus some ice to make one.
I don’t think any party is complete without a fun drink. For adults-only beverages, I love making a big batch of Margaritas or Palomas but I always want to take care of the designated drivers and others who would rather not have alcohol, but I like to keep it fun!
This drink always makes everyone smile and it’s so easy to make. There’s really no excuse not to serve it when you have your next party – everyone will love it. Oh, and you don’t need a party as an excuse to make it – it’s a fun mocktail for a regular Tuesday night, too! I’ve been known to make one just for myself when I want a treat.
What is a Roy Rogers Drink?
This drink really is so simple! All you need is cola, grenadine and ice to make one. It’s garnished with a maraschino cherry and is so refreshing and a fun way to serve a mocktail. The Roy Rogers Drink has been around for a long time – it was created in the 1940s and named after the famous actor, Roy Rogers, who was in a lot of western movies.
A Roy Rogers tastes similar to a cherry coke, but it’s actually made with grenadine which is usually made from pomegranate and other flavors. It gives the drink a tart and sweet flavor.
Is it the Same as a Shirley Temple?
Nope! They are two different non-alcoholic drinks but they are similar. A Roy Rogers is made with cola and a Shirley Temple is made with ginger ale or lemon-lime soda, but they both have grenadine. If you’re having a party, you can have both cola and ginger ale and let your guests make the drink of their choice!
This is such a great way to serve a non-alcoholic drink for parties – it’s so easy and it’s more fun than just offering a plain soda.
How to Mix a Roy Rogers Drink
Once you have the ingredients, it’s very easy to make the drink. Because it’s carbonated, I don’t recommend making a big batch at once. Instead, I like to have all of the ingredients available so my guests can mix up their own! I like to serve them in a collins glass which is a tall tumbler. Here’s what you need to make one:
- Ice cubes
- Grenadine
- Cola
- Maraschino cherries, for garnish
Fill the glass with ice, pour in the grenadine, and add the cola. Give it a stir and garnish it with a cherry. So easy!
There’s a reason this mocktail has been around forever – it’s so refreshing! The combination of the sweet and tart with the cola is perfect. The kids love it, too and always feel special when they get their own fancy drink to enjoy.
